But amidst all his triumphs, the former middleweight champion has his fair share of blemishes on his MMA record, and that’s what we’ll be looking at today.

Sean Strickland is all set to win back his title this weekend at UFC 312 in a rematch against Dricus du Plessis. Sean Strickland’s endeavor in the world of mixed martial started when his mother introduced him to MMA and since then he has ͏not looked back. He ͏made his UFC debut at UFC 171: Hendricks vs. Lawler on March 15, 2014, stepping into the ͏Octagon against Robert McDan͏iel. In an impressive display of skill͏, he ͏secured ͏victory ͏in the first͏ ͏round. Strickland has lost 6 fights in his career and all of it came in the UFC. He was beaten by Santiago Ponzinibbio by a unanimous decision back in 2015. The second loss of his career came against Kamaru Usman. Strickland lost the battle via another unanimous decision.

The third loss of his career came against Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos. In the first round, Tarzan succumbed to a knockout (KO) or technical knockout (TKO) from a well-placed kick at the 3-minute and 40-second mark. The fourth loss of his career came against Alex Pereira. Strickland was knocked out by Pereira in 2 minutes 36 seconds of Round 1 of their bout. His fifth loss was against Jared Cannonier on December 17, 2022. But the most significant loss came against Dricus du Plessis at UFC 297.

Sean Strickland was on top of the world when he became the UFC champion at UFC 293. The whole fan base was behind him when he was next scheduled to fight South Africa’s Dricus du Plessis. The duo had a very heated buildup to their fight emanating from the 2024 seasonal press conference. They even had a brawl while seated amongst the crowd at UFC 296.

In an amazing fight, both Sean Strickland and Dricus du Plessis showcased an impressive performance, but ‘Stillknocks’ prevailed and managed to edge past the former champion just narrowly via a split decision victory as he fulfilled his dream of becoming the first UFC champion from the Rainbow nation.

Sean Strickland’s MMA stats and record

Sean Strickland has participated in a total of 35 professional MMA contests. Out of these, he emerged victorious in 29 bouts, showcasing a versatile skill set that includes 11 wins via knockout, 4 via submission, and 14 via decision. On the flip side, his 5 defeats included experiencing getting knocked out twice and submitting thrice. Nevertheless, ‘Tarzan’ has some pretty stellar records to his name.

Firstly, Sean Strickland averaged over 6 strikes per minute, making it the most in the middleweight division’s history. Additionally, the Corona native also has the record of attempting the most significant strikes in a single UFC fight in the 185-pound division. He holds the same record in the light heavyweight division as well. Not only that, but Strickland has landed the most significant strikes and head strikes in middleweight division history. These stats alone make him a legend in the division.
