Despite his many flaws, the one thing Sean Strickland can never be accused of is not speaking his mind. ‘Tarzan’ who beat Israel Adesanya in probably the biggest upset in UFC history at UFC 293 last year, says whatever he wants about whoever he wants no matter how egregious or politically incorrect his comments may be. In a recent interview, it was not surprising to see him diss Conor McGregor for how the Irishman carries himself, in turn, calling the Notorious ‘a punching bag‘. It was not long before he even dragged Colby Covington into the chatter!

In a UFC 296 press conference, for instance, he claimed upcoming opponent Dricus Du Plessis and his coach were involved in a sexual relationship, prompting the South African to respond and promise to make him forget the abuse he received from his father as a child. Certainly, the tensions are quite high! What did Sean Strickland actually say?

Sean Strickland doesn’t seem like the biggest fan of Conor McGregor

Sean Strickland has become a fan favorite with his trash talk skills, which are unpredictable and genuinely violent in nature, as well as his modesty and humbleness. On being asked by Megan Olivi in an interview for ESPN MMA the reason behind his popularity, he provided some further insights. The middleweight champion felt he was unlike other athletes and came off as a regular guy who made some money. His unpretentiousness and down-to-earth nature, he believed, made him relatable. “Well most people suck, most athletes suck. People like me because they’re like ‘Oh that’s my white trash uncle that I used to hang out with… look he’s famous he’s making money’,'” he said. After this came the comparisons with Conor McGregor.

He contrasted this with McGregor, who wore suits in public and flashed his wealth and riches at every chance he got. Strickland felt ‘Notorious’, who has seen poverty and homelessness, had forgotten where he came from and had let the wealth and fame get to his head. He was also critical of Colby Covington. “And then you have like, the superstars like McGregor who walks around in a suit. Like you’re a punching bag, dude. Like at what point do you forget what you are…”. Olivi barged in and said, “Represent yourself in an original organic way“, to which he replied, “Unlike Colby Covington, you know the fraudulent man,” he added. As Strickland gears up to make his first title defense against Du Plessis at UFC 297 in January, he has come out with a dire warning for the South African.

Strickland threatens to stab DDP in an eye-opening revelation!

In a recent interview with Chris Curtis, Sean Strickland reiterated his disgust with Du Plessis for making fun of his childhood trauma, as he felt it crossed the line. He threatened to ‘stab’ Du Plessis if ‘DDP’ brought up childhood again, which, knowing Strickland, won’t be given for the sake of it. “Dricus, we’re gonna try to murder each other. But if you bring that s*it up again, I will fu**ing stab you,” he said.

In addition, Sean Strickland warned that his main goal at UFC 297 would be to inflict as much pain on Du Plessis as possible, the title and money being of secondary importance to him. The South African, however, is not one to back down from threats. This is why fans are expecting fireworks at their upcoming UFC 297 pre-fight press conferences and weigh-ins.
