With his shortcoming fixed, is Alex Pereira now unstoppable in the UFC?

Current light-heavyweight champion Alex Pereira might resort to wrestling for his UFC 307 match against Khalil Rountree Jr. He seems to be preparing in full swing as per his social media videos and posts. Interestingly a certain middleweight also vouched for Pereira and said that he accomplished to improve one drawback that he had. Pereira might have become an all-rounder now that the only drawback was eliminated by him. Let’s see what the middleweight Sean Strickland had to say about this.

While talking to the Schmo recently, Strickland was asked about ‘Poatan’ and his thoughts on the UFC 307 fight. He said, “No man I think Alex is decent at getting up you know you watch him train now like he works his way up so. I have wrestled Khalil he can’t fu** wrestle so.” Pereira had come into UFC in 2021 from Glory Kickboxing and since then he has aced in the octagon and evolved as one of the greatest fighters of all time. The light heavyweight king has wins over Sean Strickland, Israel Adesanya, Jiri Prochaska, and more. The Brazilian is fighting Rountree and he is working on his grappling skills and might not even need to utilize his takedown defense. The 34-year-old has not secured a TKO and does not have a submission till now.

The reigning champ traveled to Utah ahead of the event to hone his skills since he is fighting at a high altitude and breathing is a chore. Pereira had invited Strickland to join him in training camp to help him prepare for this fight. After Pereira won against Strickland at UFC 276 they formed a great bond. Following that, the 33-year-old started training with Pereira and won the UFC middleweight title last year.

In a previous interview with Helen Yee, Strickland gave his thoughts on ‘Poatan’ and Rountree. He said, “I just can’t see Khalil [Rountree Jr.] pulling it off…I think I may have watched him fight Anthony Smith, I just can’t see it happening. I don’t think he has the tools in the toolbox to beat Alex [Pereira]. He’s not knocking him out, he’s not out striking him, he’s not out wrestling him.” ‘Tarzan’ also predicted the fight outcome and said that Alex might make aneasy fightfor this event. Even Coach Wood predicted something for Pereira ahead of this match.

Alex Pereira will resort to wrestling according to Coach Wood

John Wood feels like Pereira will resound to wrestling in his next fight. One of the reasons is that the opponent Pereria has won 4 out of 5 fights via KO, and Rountree isn’t exactly known for his takedowns. The last time Pereira was knocked out was during his match against Adesanya at UFC 287.

The Brazilian is going to use wrestling and John Wood also hinted at the same. While speaking to Mike Owens he said, “Listen, that got kind of taken out of context. I don’t think anybody is shooting in this fight. I don’t. But I said if somebody does, there’s a track record, there’s proof Alex has shot in fights before. He has attempted takedowns. I don’t know if Khalil has ever done that, you know. I can’t think of anything in my mind you know that he’s ever shot takedowns.”
