Interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall has been asking for a fight against Jon Jones for quite some time now. However, the undisputed champion doesn’t seem too interested in that proposition since he wants to fight the former two-time champion, Stipe Miocic. This decision from Jones has unsettled many, including Sean Strickland, who recently weighed in and suggested ‘Bones’ man up a bit.
The ever-vocal former middleweight champion never hesitates to speak his mind regardless of the subject. During a recent interview with ‘The Schmo‘, he was asked about Jon Jones’s recent interaction with Tom Aspinall in Birmingham, UK. As a response, Strickland had some harrowing things to say about ‘Bones’.

When ‘The Schmo’ mentioned the Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall meet-up, Sean Strickland seemed oblivious to it. He did not know what had transpired between the two heavyweights. But when it was revealed that Jones removed Aspinall’s hand from his shoulder, Strickland rained down on ‘Bones’ with some serious remarks. He said, “I mean, at the end of the day, dude, Jon Jones is a piece of sh*t. I know that. The whole world knows that. We don’t need to reiterate his past.”
Besides what he had to say about Jon Jones, Sean Strickland believes that fighting Tom Aspinall is the right thing to do for Jon Jones. He suggested the undisputed champion be the fighter people believe him to be and fight the interim champion. “He needs to sack up, fight Aspinall and get the sh*t done,” Strickland added. Since Jones has yet to accept Aspinall’s challenge, the latter isn’t planning to wait and has set his sights on another opponent already.

Tom Aspinall has spoken about wanting to be as active as possible many times in the past. And due to Jon Jones’s refusal to fight, he could be eyeing a fight against Curtis Blaydes. ‘Razor’ recently defeated Jailton Almeida at UFC 299 and proceeded to call out Aspinall for a rematch. Despite having a win over Aspinall, Blaydes wants to fight again, but this time, things will be different because the interim title will be on the line.
As a response to Blaydes’ call-out, Tom Aspinall seemed to have agreed to fight his former rival in an attempt to avenge his only UFC loss. “… I have nothing bad to say about Curtis Blaydes personally. Professionally, I want to whoop him,” Aspinall stated during an appearance in Michael Bisping‘s ‘Believe You Me’ podcast.

There is a chance that Jon Jones could eventually fight Tom Aspinall to unify the heavyweight titles, and that can only happen if ‘Bones’ doesn’t choose to retire after his supposed next fight against Stipe Miocic. But if that doesn’t happen, the 30-year-old Brit will always have other contenders in the division, just like Curtis Blaydes.
