It’s common to see MMA fighters predict results for their opponents. However, in a recent development, Islam Makhachev and Sean O’Malley took on each other on social media. Both champions have no shortage of challengers and the pair voiced their thoughts on who would beat the other. Unsurprisingly, there was a hint of hostility visible in the exchange.

‘Sugar,’ in his post, took a dig at the current lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev after the champion showed interest in moving up to the welterweight division. However, in response, Makhachev reminded O’Malley of a formidable challenge waiting for him. Let us find out what happened between the stars.

‘Sugar’ won the bantamweight title after defeating Aljamain Sterling at UFC 292 via knockout in the second round. He holds an impressive record of 17-1-0 in the MMA. However, one of his biggest rivals in the future can be Umar Nurmagomedov. ‘Young Eagle’ is still unbeaten in the UFC and boasts a record of 16-0. Although there has been no official announcement of their fight, fans might soon witness the battle if Umar keeps up his form.

MMA Junkie shared a post on Instagram where Makhachev made his prediction regarding ‘Sugar’ if he faced Nurmagomedov in the future and commented: “Umar Beats Sugar.” The entire battle started after Makhachev showed interest in moving up to the welterweight division after successfully defending his lightweight title at UFC 294. If the 32-year-old decides to move to welterweight, he might have to face Leon Edwards for the title.

O’Malley started the online feud when he picked his favorite and commented: ” Leon beats Islam.” It is not surprising that the bantamweight picked against the Dagestani since the Khabib camp argued that Petr Yan had beaten O’Malley in their meeting at UFC 280 in October 2022.
