‘Sugar’ Sean O’Malley will face bantamweight champion Aljamain ‘Funkmaster’ Sterling in a title bout for the main event at UFC 292 this Saturday. The Montana native goes into the fight with just one loss 3 years ago and one disappointing no-contest against Pedro Munhoz on his record. But, it seems, both Sterling and O’Malley have already made their plans post the bout clear.
Sterling has indicated that this will be his last fight at 135. The significant amount of weight he has to cut negatively impacts his health. On the other hand, O’Malley has come out asking to avenge his only loss and even has a date in mind.

On episode 2 of the ‘Embedded’ show on the UFC’s YouTube channel, O’Malley talked about who he wants to fight after Sterling. ‘Sugar’ states that he wants to stay active and wants to fight in December, around the same time that Conor McGregor is slated to make his comeback against Michael Chandler. He put forth the name of Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera, the only loss on his record, as his next opponent if the latter wins his upcoming bout against Munhoz.

“I want to stay active, baby, get me back in there in December — let’s run it up!” he said. “Realistically, if ‘Chito’ wins, let’s do me and ‘Chito’ in December. Book it. I am ready to book it right now and I will sign a contract,” O’Malley added.

‘Chito’ Vera handed O’Malley his first loss at UFC 252
In August 2021, Sean O’Malley faced Marlon Vera in a bantamweight bout. ‘Chito’ defeated O’Malley in the first round via a TKO, handing him the first loss in his career. The loss was a result of a calf kick, which shut down ‘Sugar’s peroneal nerve. The American could not stand up and was TKO’d shortly after he fell down. O’Malley called this loss a “fluke” on Vera’s part on the ‘Flagrant’ podcast. Which is why, it seems, he is eager to avenge the only loss on his record.

Of course, both men need to take care of their upcoming opponents- Sterling and Munhoz- before they face each other. This is no easy task as Sterling has already defended his bantamweight title a record three times. ‘Funkmaster’ is an excellent wrestler, and the bout is seen as a typical grappler vs. striker contest.
