Sean O’Malley got handed more than a win at UFC 299. This weekend, he defeated and avenged his sole defeat against Marlon Vera via a unanimous decision. The bantamweight champion had previously lost before the challenger and had a lot of pressure going into but it did not seem like it!

He was in control for the majority of the fight and out-skilled him. This win solidifies his status as a champion and opens up several intriguing match-ups. However, apart from his win and his purse, he also won another reward. Find out all about it.

O’Malley did not attain any bonus for his fight against Vera. However, it can be safely said that his purse would be a substantial amount. In addition, as per several reports, he is expected to take home an additional $42,000 as promotional guidelines compliance.

The is to compensate for his media obligations, and other items under the fighter code of conduct, replacing the previous payments made under the UFC Athlete Outfitting Policy. Moreover, it bears mention that the entire promotional compliance pay is upward of $3,500,000, and the Bantamweight has secured the lion’s share.

Needless to say, this title defense solidifies his position in the company as a legit star capable of selling out arenas, whicch leads to the question, who is he going to fight next?

The call-outs made by O’Malley following UFC 299

After his win, he called out featherweight champion, Ilia Topuria. In the past, the two have tussled with each other and welcomed a potential match-up. In the post-fight interview, ‘Suga’ even said, “Dana, give me a jet to Spain baby, I’m coming for Ilia Topuria.” He said. “. . . I want Ilia baby, give me Ilia.” 

However, in the post-fight press conference, he was asked about the possibility of facing Merab Dvalishvili as a title defense and he answered in the affirmative. He said, “I realized that fight could very well happen next.” Meanwhile, Topuria also congratulated the champion on his performance but advised him to focus on fighting Dvalishvili next.
