The aftermath of UFC 292 continues to intensify the excitement surrounding the Bantamweight division. Sean O’Malley, who has now claimed the coveted championship title, finds himself squarely in the spotlight, drawing the attention of the entire UFC community. In the wake of O’Malley’s impressive victory over Aljamain Sterling, he has once again issued a challenge to Marlon Vera, proposing a highly anticipated rematch set to take place at UFC 296.

Marlon Vera is the sole fighter in the UFC’s bantamweight division to have ever defeated O’Malley. O’Malley now desires a rematch against ‘Chito’ and has been consistently calling for it since his victory over Aljamain Sterling, where he earned the Bantamweight title. The 28-year-old fighter has consistently engaged in conversations about Marlon Vera and has continuously called him out for a rematch following his victory against Aljamain Sterling and his subsequent attainment of the bantamweight title. In a recent event, ‘Sugar’ took to Instagram to call out Dana White, requesting a matchup between himself and Chito Vera. On his Instagram, he shared a picture of himself inside the octagon and captioned, “ Baller, Shot Caller give me Chito. You are welcome”. The term “baller shot-caller” is American slang, which refers to the leader of a gang.

O’Malley has called for a rematch on several occasions. After defeating Sterling, O’Malley inquired about Chito’s victory, and from that moment on, he has consistently called out Vera for a rematch. O’Malley has even warned Chito that if he doesn’t accept his challenge, he will allow a title fight to Henry Cejudo.

Before his face-off against Sterling, O’Malley made it clear that the demand for the fight with ‘chito’ was not personal. He has noticed a significant improvement in ‘Chito,’ and he holds a deep respect for his skills. A rematch between them would be the biggest fight in the division if they both have one.

O’Malley’s quest for redemption and a bantamweight title defense

Sean O’Malley is keen on securing a rematch with Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera at UFC 296, slated for December. This bout would mark O’Malley’s inaugural title defense as the bantamweight champion if it happens.

Previously, O’Malley had been reluctant to acknowledge this loss, but he has recently taken an unconventional stance, suggesting that he intentionally lost the fight.  He stated speaking to Ariel Helwani of The MMA Hour “If I got to pick if I was running the show, I would say yes simple because ‘Chito’ is the biggest fight next. Not because of his beautiful performance over Pedro [Munhoz]. That was not the case. If I fight ‘Chito’ next it’s because that’s what I want and that’s the biggest fight. I’m in the fight business and I want big fights.” He contemplated that he lost the fight to have a title fight with Sterling.

Sean O’Malley’s victory at UFC 292 has ignited interest in a rematch with Marlon Vera. Despite losing to Chito previously, O’Malley now seeks redemption as the bantamweight champion. He’s made it clear that the fight is about creating excitement and big matchups in the division. UFC 296 could witness this highly anticipated showdown or possibly open the door for Henry Cejudo if Vera declines.
