At UFC 306, Sean O’Malley failed to keep up with his promise to get a win against the Georgian Merab Dvalishvili. ‘Machine’ completely outclassed the former bantamweight champion to clinch the belt for himself. The build-up for the fight was intense, with both the fighters attacking each other with verbal jabs that even included their nationality, however, ‘Machine’ had the last laugh.

The P4P rankings update shared by John Morgan on X showcased an astounding bump up for Merab D͏v͏a͏l͏is͏͏͏hv͏ili and Valentina Shevchenko. The new bantamweight champion is now ranked #7th on the P4P list while on the other hand the former champ, Sean O’Malley nearly gets himself out of the rankings as he is now ranked at #13th spot moving seven spots down from his initial rankings.
It was a real letdown for the former champ considering the fact that he has only lost twice in his career. Close behind him at #8th is the interim heavyweight champion of the world, Tom Aspinall. It must be noted that ‘Machine’ has gone past former welterweight champion, Leon Edwards who is at #9th, and even Max Holloway and Alexander Volkanovski.
In addition to them, Valentina Shevchenko is again at the top of women’s pound-for-pound fighter rankings. While on the other hand, Alexa Grasso, falls two spots to No. 3 at P4P in the latest rankings update. Grasso also settles in as the No. 1 contender at 125 pounds. Following Shevchenko at no #2nd is current strawweight champion, Zhang Weili.

Well, UFC Noche turned out to be Sean O’Malley’s trojan horse but why did the striker fail to even put a dent in Merab D͏v͏a͏l͏is͏͏͏hv͏ili inside the Octagon? Former dual weight champion, Henry Cejudo breaks down O’Mallel’s fallout.
Henry Cejudo breaks down ‘Suga’s performance at UFC Noche
While having a conversationon on X, former dual weight champion of the world, Henry Cejudo broke down the reason why Sean O’Malley failed to take on Merab Dvalishvili. Cejudo stated that it was not O’Malley’s fault that he couldn’t fight ‘Machine’ but it was the fact that the omrer champion has never fought anyone who is a freestyle wrestler. “A lot of people say that Sean was flat, but Sean has never fought somebody like a Merab Dvalishvili, a freestyle fighter,” said Cejudo.

He further added, “Merab moves, as O’Malley was here, he [Dvalishvili] was literally running, and as he would get closer, he would punch and be able to turn that punch into a takedown, to be able to get on top of O’Malley and pretty much just control him.But the thing is, the more that Merab made a guy like O’Malley get up, the better it was for a guy, because he was doing it again. He was fatiguing him through his struggles getting up and then he was catching him again with his punch to his takedowns…I want a showdown with Sean O’Malley here in Arizona.”
Sean O’Malley will have to make sure that he improves his wrestling and ground game considering the fact that in the coming months, more wrestlers are going to come to the division. Reagrdless, do you agree with Cejudo’s assessments? State your thoughts in the comments below.
