UFC London witnessed the fall of Leon Edwards as Sean Brady defeated the first Jamaican UFC welterweight champion via a guillotine hold in the fourth round of the main event. Of course, defeating ‘Rocky’ in his homeland gave Brady a humongous magnitude of power in the welterweight realm. This would soon put him on the spot of the #1 welterweight contender. However, the bout also witnessed Brady breaking the record for most control time in a single round in the UFC.
Khamzat Chimaev was the previous record holder for the most control time in a single UFC round. Back in 2020, when the Chechen Wolf dominated his bout against John Phillips with a control time of 4 minutes and 55 seconds. And before ‘Borz’, it was Chael Sonnen who held that record. ‘The American Gangster’ controlled the game for 4 minutes and 53 seconds in the second round of his fight against Nate Marquardt.
Now, Brady has come forth with a new record. At UFC London, the resident of Philadelphia broke these records. In the second round of his fight with Edwards, Brady controlled the game for around 4 minutes and 57 seconds. With his strength revolving around BJJ, it was nothing short of a walk in the park for Brady to claim a win over Edwards, who was more of a striker.

Well, not everyone believed that Brady could claim the win over Edwards. After all, he took the fight on short notice and was a bit shorter than his opponent. But he was a welterweight, nonetheless. But did the Philadelphia native know that he would dominate Edwards with his clinches? It certainly seemed like he did.

Sean Brady knew that he could dominate Leon Edwards at UFC London
Brady succeeded in impressing the audience and the professionals as he submitted the former welterweight champion. It was indeed a perfect response to everyone who doubted him because he was about 4 inches shorter than Edwards. And that was the very first thing that he addressed after defeating the former champion. Talking to Michael Bisping, he said, “So, I ain’t f—ing small for welterweight. I’m just short.”
Bisping then asked Brady if there was anything that surprised him. After all, Brady was the one in control for most of the fight. But it seemed like the soon-to-be welterweight #1 had seen it all before. He said, “To be honest, I literally took this fight the day I got out of the hospital with my wife, with our newborn baby. I knew this was the fight that I could do that in, I know I can do that against anybody in the division. I just showed that against one of the most prestigious champions as of recently. So, I think I belong in the top. Top 3, top 1, for sure.”
