How many times have we seen Joe Rogan go back on his words? Recently, at UFC 291, in an amusing chain of events, the UFC commentator actually forgot a basic statistic of a fighter he was introducing.

What’s more – the 55-year-old who once dissed his old pal Dana White for an “illogical” weight-cutting tradition for fighters in the UFC, now seems to have made a U-turn on his statements. In fact, in a recent episode of his JRE podcast, he even lauded the UFC President for his “hi-tech” efforts to improve weight-cutting camps.

In episode #144 of the JRE MMA Show, Rogan hosted UFC A-lister and #3 Middleweight Jared Cannonier for a discussion. The JRE host kicked off the interview by reflecting on the wild UFC 291 PPV that has fans and pundits buzzing.

On the same note, the UFC commentator brought up the topic of UFC’s “hi-tech” upgrades to their training facilities. Citing the example of UFC Apex and the UFC Performance Institute in Nevada, he lauded the UFC’s efforts to help ease weight cuts for fighters.

He started off, stating, “I feel like when I’m at the Apex, I feel lucky…it’s like you’re watching a fight in a gym. I mean that’s kind of what they did – that’s kind of what the UFC did. They made their own gym[UFC PI], and they made their own Arena[UFC Apex]. A little intimate arena – and it’s great for Tuesday Night Fights too.”

Moreover, the conversation led to the UFC Performance Institute – a cutting-edge training facility that “has been a goldmine” for fighters, claimed Cannonier. Rogan praised the impact of the efforts made by the UFC, adding, “They really help guys scientifically cut weight correctly too. And give them an assessment of whether or not they can do it – and be healthy when they’re doing it. That weight-cutting camp is a crazy game!”

Joe Rogan’s shift in perspective on weight-cutting: from “illogical” to praiseworthy

Joe Rogan’s praise for the UFC’s efforts marks a complete U-turn on his stance on the “culture” of weight cutting. Last year, in a conversation with BJ Penn, he dissed the UFC’s traditional approach to get fighters to drop weight classes for fights – by severe weight cuts.

Advocating against such practices, he declared, “It’s so illogical and it drives me crazy. And it’s one of those things that I think we’re stuck with for no good reason. It’s a bad tradition.”

Moreover, he argued that “the problem really is just the weight-cutting itself. I think if we could eliminate that from the sport and make people fight at their natural weight… It’s a bad culture because it doesn’t make any sense.”

Previously critical of the practices, he now seems to recognize the value of the UFC’s initiatives to promote healthier and more effective methods for fighters to manage their weight.

Dana White’s commitment to providing fighters with state-of-the-art training facilities and expert guidance has not only earned Rogan’s approval but also offers a potential solution to a long-standing issue in the sport.
