“Ireland, the choice is yours and it is an easy one. Vote for me as your President and we will SAVE IRELAND TOGETHER,” Conor McGregor declared in a social media post last month, yet again reiterating his desire to run for President of Ireland in the 2025 elections. Why does ‘Mystic Mac’, who has found himself mired in one controversy after another, want to do that?
According to him, he wants to save the Irish people from what he describes as an “invasion” of asylum seekers and undocumented migrants. But how does the Dubliner plan to do that? After all, the office of the Irish President is not at all like the American Presidency. No, the Republic of Ireland functions as a parliamentary democracy, where the President has a ceremonial role akin to that of the British monarch.
The real powers lie in the Prime Minister, who is elected by a majority of the Parliament. So how does the mixed martial artist plan on doing that? Well, fortunately for those rooting for him, he has a plan. Its just that he’s not comfortable with sharing it at the moment.

“I have a lot of plans and Ive been discussing with a lot of people. I’m letting no one know nothing. I’ll let the electorate know closer to the [election] time. I’m keeping it tight my man and that’s the truth. But the constitution will be fixed. Mark my words, the constitution will be fixed,” McGregor told ‘Pol Sieoge’ in a recent chat.

McGregor, of course, is new to politics. Since he is running an independent campaign, he will not have the support and tools available to other candidates, who belong to existing parties. This means that ‘The Notorious’ will be responsible for coming up with his own political platform, probably writing a manifesto, and mobilizing a whole campaign. A daunting task for someone even of McGregor’s wealth and fame. Luckily, the former UFC star has found a very powerful ally.
Elon Musk backs Conor McGregor for Irish President
Conor McGregor hopes to run for President as an outsider, away from the established Irish political parties. Many do not even think the former UFC star would get on the ballot to contest the elections because of the nomination process to be a Presidential candidate. But in good news for the bombastic Dubliner and his fans, ‘Mystic Mac’ has got a very powerful ally.

What’s your perspective on:
Is McGregor's presidential run a genuine bid to save Ireland or just another publicity stunt?
Have an interesting take?
“I think you could take them all single-handed. Not even fair,” Elon Musk responded to one of the Irishman’s posts. Musk, of course, is the richest man in the world and owns X, probably the most influential social media company in the world. The South African tech billionaire was also crucial to Donald Trump being elected President of the United States, and reportedly spent around $250 million to help the Republican’s 2024 Presidential bid.
If ‘Mystic Mac’ could indeed convince Musk to support him financially, that would exponentially increase his chances of being elected Ireland’s President this year. What do you think about Conor McGregor’s ‘plan’ upon taking office?
