Colby Covington’s last appearance at UFC 296 against Leon Edwards turned out to be a nightmare. He not only lost the battle but also gave away his chance of becoming a champion. However, it now seems that the 36-year-old is ready for his next challenge. In his latest interview, while speaking to the host, Kacper Rosolowski, Covington picked up his next opponent.

‘Chaos’ said, “I think a guy like Charles Oliveira makes sense, you know. He was out there saying the other day that he wants to come up to welterweight. So I’m the king of f..ng Brazil. Man, everybody knows that I run that country.” Oliveira currently competes in the lightweight division. However, he has shown interest in moving up to the 170-pound division. While speaking to the host, Covington shared why a fight against Oliveira would help his career and why he is better than him.

The 36-year-old said, “Yeah, you know a bigger name, a guy that’s a former champion, you know. Someone that’s actually done something in this business. Someone that’s actually relevant and you know the fight draws and makes sense. And there are a lot of angles in that fight, you know. Is he going to defend his country? Or is he going to go into retirement and just always know that Colby Covington is the owner of Brazil? We’re very comparable in size. But skill? No, that’s where we’re not comparable. That’s where I just beat him everywhere. I’m just a better all- round mixed martial artist “

At the moment, Covington is sizing up his next opponents and keeping all his options open. The unbeaten Irish, who has been constantly trying to get the attention of ‘Chaos’, will now have to wait, as Covington has no interest in facing him. Colby Covington doesn’t mind facing Belal Muhammad next in his career

Colby Covington has always been smart in picking up his fights throughout his career. According to the former interim welterweight champion, Ian Garry’s fight would do no good for his career at the moment. As a result, he has constantly avoided the 27-year-old’s repeated callouts. Covington, who is currently ranked #4 in the division, has yet to win the title in his career. However, it now seems that he has his eyes set on the number one contender, Belal Muhammad, as well.

In one of his recent interviews, Covington shared how he wanted the UFC to decide on his next opponent and said, “I love this company with all my heart; they’ve changed my life and made me a multi-millionaire so I’m so thankful to them, so I’m going to let them decide”. However, he did mention that he had a particular fighter in mind and said, “But I don’t know, maybe this kid ‘Bayley Muhammad’ who’s been talking a lot.”

According to Covington, Muhammad is ranked higher than him, and a win against him would throw him back in title contention. Despite keeping all his options open, ‘Chaos’ has yet to get his next fight in the UFC. However, it will be interesting to see whom he faces next.
