Joe Rogan still got it, or is it time for fresh voices in UFC commentary?

The highly anticipated UFC 307 has found its broadcast team! The Alex Pereira vs.Khalil Rountree Jr. headlining event is set to take place this weekend at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. This will be UFC’s fourth visit to Salt Lake City and the first time after the UFC 291 that happened back in July 2023. The entire card is packed and so is the commentary team. Sources state that fans will be getting the epic trio of Joe Rogan, Daniel Cormier, and Jon Anik.

Despite the star-studded commentary team, the MMA community is not happy with them for many reasons. When Dana White announced the Salt Lake City, Utah card, the fans were excited to witness Alex Pereira fight for the third time this year, and that too against another striker, Khalil Rountree Jr. but the recent confession about the commentary team appeared to have turned the MMA community sour.

But why are the fans so salty? Well, it is due to the fact that Daniel Cormier and specifically Joe Rogan appear to be losing their credibility as commentators. The UFC 306 blunder where Joe Rogan called the match for Ode Osbourne against Ronaldo Rodriguez after a failed guillotine choke devastated his credibility to such an extent that the fans even called out the UFC broadcasting team to give them some new voices.

Well, that’s not all as Joe Rogan as well as Daniel Cormier has been accused of being biased in their commentary approach. One of the latest examples is the UFC 305 clash between Israel Adesanya and Dricus Du Plessis. Joe Rogan didn’t host that event, but he sat down with Brendan Schaub, Tony Hinchcliffe, and Brian Simpson for commentary on his JRE Fight Companion Show.

Regardless, when Dricus Du Plessis was struggling to fight Adesanya, Rogan said, “This is the Stylebender of old, kids… It’s also a guy [Du Plessis] that’s compromised. You’ve been beating him up and chipping away at him. And now you’re fresher, and he’s dying. He’s taking big, lunging shots at you…” but his tune soon changed when ‘StillKnocks’ clinched the victory by way of submission, “Dude, dude, dude. Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God, oh my God. He hurt him, dude. He hurt him.” These are some of the few examples, of why the MMA community appears to be done with the commentary team. So what are they expecting to see at UFC 307?

Joe Rogan and Daniel Cormier get called out after UFC 307 commentary panel revealed

What’s your perspective on:

Joe Rogan still got it, or is it time for fresh voices in UFC commentary?

Have an interesting take?

Joe Rogan’s commentary has been the voice of the promotion since its inception back in the 2000s, however, after two decades of commentary, it appears that the fans have some diverging thoughts about Rogan as well as Daniel Cormier. Rogan and Cormier are not the only ones accused of bias. Even Michael Bisping has faced backlash over his commentary when teammates or his countrymen are fighting.

Fans sarcastically hyped it up to assert that they would rather watch the fights on mute. This is a growing sentiment where fans claim that commentary affects the way you see a fight. Remember how Dominick Cruz said Conor McGregor was tiring out Khabib Nurmagomedov by staying on the bottom and fighting through some ground and pound?

Furthermore, fans have called for Joe Rogan to retire from commentary altogether. The 57-year-old currently only covers U.S.-based events and no longer travels internationally, but now even that is no longer sitting well with fans. One main reason is that Rogan does not seem to be training much MMA or Jiu-Jitsu anymore. Some viewers have felt that the Jiu-Jitsu black belt has lost his ability to describe transitions on the mat because he is out of touch with the game.

Joe Rogan has be͏en͏ awest͏ruck by Alex͏ Pereira since ͏the day he entered the promot͏ion, largel͏y͏ due to his ki͏ckboxing root͏s. ͏However,͏ desp͏ite Roga͏n’s fascination, it has become inc͏reasing͏ly ͏annoy͏in͏g for fans͏ t͏o hear him t͏alk about Pereira͏ repeat͏edly.

Furthermore, a fan appears to be wanting to hear Paul Felder and Michael Bisping rather than Daniel Cormier.
