Conor McGregor is currently going through a downfall in the UFC. He has only won one fight since UFC 205. The former champion is currently on a two-fight skid and both of his losses have come against Poirier. In the second defeat at UFC 264, he snapped his leg.
Given that he is on the comeback trail, fans can take his tweets as him declaring his intention for when he returns.
Conor McGregor wants to fight for the title
Brazilian fighter Charles Oliveira, the UFC lightweight champion, recently made his first-ever title defense against ‘The Diamond’ at UFC 269.
The UFC already has an opponent for Oliveira’s next title defense. It is none other than the number one lightweight contender Justin Gaethje. However, after UFC 269, ‘The Notorious’ expressed his interest in fighting for the lightweight title.
‘Do Bronx’ seemed interested as he quickly responded to the former champion.

As McGregor is the pay-per-view star of the promotion, his opponents also receive the perks of fighting him.
Hence, even though Gaethje was the next viable opponent for the lightweight title, Oliveira diverted his attention towards the Irishman.
