UFC recently let go of yet another fighter following Francis Ngannou‘s departure earlier this year. Former UFC middleweight title contender, Darren Till, has been removed from the UFC roster. It surprised UFC fans to see the popular English fighter being shown the door. Moreover, his former opponent, Robert Whittaker, and the number 1 P4P fighter, Alexander Volkanovski, shared their take on Till‘s UFC release.

‘The Gorilla’ is one of the popular fighters hailing from England. He currently holds an MMA record of 18 wins and 5 losses overall. Till had been fighting under the UFC banner since 2015 until his release a few days ago.

‘The Gorilla’ was on a 3-fight losing streak before getting released by the UFC, and many fans believe that was the reason behind his departure. However, the Australian UFC duo of Robert Whittaker and Alexander Volkanovski both have different opinions with regard to Till leaving the premier MMA organization in the world.

The Australian UFC duo appeared on ‘Fox Australia’ to talk about the Jon Jones vs Ciryl Gane super fight at UFC 285. The host of the show brought up the topic of Darren Till‘s release and asked for their thoughts on the matter.

‘The Reaper’ shared his thoughts first on his former opponent. He believes that Till‘s poor performance in his recent bouts may not be the real reason for his departure. Whittaker said, “It’s surprising, to be honest. I would have to believe that it’s not purely because of his [Darren Till’s] last few losses.

The former UFC middleweight champion believes that Darren Till is a great fighter and that his recent losses shouldn’t sum up his UFC career and mentioned his stature as one of the most talked-about fighters from the UK. “Granted, he’s lost five of his last six, but he looks good when he looks good. He’s still a big name, especially in that U.K. market. People love the way he holds himself. He’s a funny dude, quite charismatic,” said ‘The Reaper’.

Alexander Volkanovski shared the same sentiment as Robert Whittaker and claimed that his performances had nothing to do with his departure from the promotion. He said, “I don’t think it would just because of the losses.”

‘The Great’ added, “Not only he is a fan-favorite, a very popular dude …he is losing to great fighters so you can’t be too hard in that way. But I think it has to do with something else maybe. It could be negotiations, it could be personal issues, who know?”
