Robert Whittaker sent a fierce warning to the UFC middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya, ahead of their much-anticipated rematch.

‘The Reaper’ failed to defeat the New Zealander in their first middleweight title clash at UFC 243. However, with three wins in his bag against some of the best fighters from the division, Whittaker has earned his second shot at the UFC gold.

He will now take on the Nigerian-born champion inside the cage at UFC 271 on February 12 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. Ahead of the rematch, ‘The Reaper’ appeared in an interview with Submission Radio, where he claimed to have found loopholes in Izzy’s game. And also declared that he will defeat the champion this time.

Whittaker said, “When he lost to Jan (Blachowicz) everyone knew he was beatable then because he got beat right. But stylistically, I could see some angles that Jan could capitalize on that.”

“I thought maybe I can capitalize on those as well. And again when he fought Vettori, I thought the same thing I saw places where Vettori took advantage of. I thought, well I can do that better.”

“And that’s not to say he’s got huge gaping holes. He’s a champ for a reason. He’s bloody good in his craft. But I just feel like I have a skill set that if he slips up, I am gonna take everything away from him.”

Israel Adesanya says Robert Whittaker will repeat the same errors

In their first fight, ‘The Last Style Bender’ dropped Whitaker by landing a vicious combination in the second round. However, leading up to the rematch, the latter has many times claimed he will use Jan Blachowicz’s game plan to defeat Izzy.

And even though ‘The Reaper’ has gradually improved his performances since his defeat, Izzy believes he will repeat the same mistakes by copying someone else’s game plan.

‘The Last Stylebender’ said to Stake, “He needs to write his own blueprint. If he wants to copy someone else’s work, then by all means try, because it went so well last time for him when we fought.”

He added, “Whittaker may have learned from his mistakes from last time for maybe a round or so, but then trust me, he will revert back to those errors.”

Izzy is reigning in the middleweight division since 2019. And also has defended his title against some of the best in the divisions. Hence, it won’t be an easy walk for Whittaker to defeat the champion. But one thing is sure, this rematch will bring fireworks inside the stadium.
