Dana White and the UFC have certainly delivered when it comes to UFC 299. The March 9 card at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida is so stacked with exciting matchups and intriguing characters from top to bottom that many fans think it is a better card than even the UFC 300 anniversary mega card.

Among these great characters is Robelis Despaigne, the Cuban MMA heavyweight who will be making his UFC debut against Josh Parisian on UFC 299. Surprisingly, the UFC has signed him at the advanced age of 36 with only four professional fights on his record. However, there are very good reasons for the promotion to have done this.

Robelis Despaigne is a heavyweight Cuban mixed martial artist, who will make his UFC debut on UFC 299 this Saturday. Fans are hyped for his debut owing to his fantastic (albeit brief) record and a very special attribute. The 6’7″ Despaigne is a physical specimen with long, lanky limbs. But what stands out is the fact that his 87″ wingspan is the longest reach of any fighter in UFC history.

The 36-year-old used size and length to devastating effect in his fledgling professional mixed martial arts career, having knocked out all four of his opponents in impressive fashion. His lean and lanky frame, reminiscent of Jon Jones and Israel Adesanya, gives him a speed and explosive advantage over other heavyweights, as well as giving him the ability to strike and counter from long range.

‘Big Boy’, on paper has all of the attributes and intangibles to be the next big thing in the UFC’s sparse heavyweight division. Whether he lives up to his potential, remains to be seen given his brief MMA experience and not having been tested against the best in the world. And while he may have come into the sport late, he comes from a decorated martial arts background
