Conor McGregor is gearing up for his Hollywood debut. The charismatic Irishman has proven himself to be an exceptional performer able, especially in playing a convincing and genuinely hateable villain throughout his MMA career.

Putting these talents to good use, McGregor is playing the chief antagonist in the upcoming remake of the 80’s action classic, Road House starring Patrick Swayze and Marshall Teague as the protagonist and antagonist, respectively. As the trailer for the film dropped last week, Teague questioned whether the 2024 version slated for a March 21 release starring Jake Gyllenhaal will stand the test of time.

Teague felt that while the film would do well on release, he was uncertain if the film would hold up and be popular even after three decades, as the 1989 original still did. “I think initially it will do fine. I hope it does fine, I really do. The question will be and this is always the question, will it last 35 years… where people are still wanting to watch that particular Road House?” he told TMZ Sports.

He pointed out that Swayze was more serious than Gyllenhaal. He also differed from McGregor in one crucial aspect. Teague felt that while he, too, was a former martial artist, he was a very different type of fighter with his Taekwondo and kickboxing background than ‘Mac’.

“Who knows, I mean Patrick Swayze was a different ball of wax and so was I. I was a different fighter than Conor McGregor… Patrick was much more serious… he didn’t have to try and I don’t think Jake’s gonna try, either. I think he just meets him and if it works out, it works out if it doesn’t it doesn’t um but we’ll see,” he stated while wishing the two new actors had the same type of relationship that he and Swayze had onscreen.

Teague hopes McGregor and Gyllenhaal become friends because of the film

Marshall Teague stated that he was a great admirer of the now-deceased Swayze, whom he missed very much and was very close too. He hoped ‘Mac’ and the Oscar-nominated actor become as close as they became when shooting the original.

“I love [Patrick Swayze] to death, and I miss him every day. He’s a great guy and I feel very honored to have had the opportunity to do that film with him and I hope the two of them [McGregor and Gyllenhaal] have the same relationship,” he added.
