After suffering a gruesome right leg break that sidelined him for an extended period, Chris Weidman made his much-anticipated return to the octagon at UFC 292. However, the former UFC middleweight champion’s comeback was marred by a series of damaging leg kicks from Brad Tavares during their clash in Boston. Although ‘The All-American’ managed to complete the 15-minute bout, he was clearly injured. He even lost to his opponent by a unanimous decision.

Recently, the former UFC middleweight champion talked about his injury on the ‘Won’t Back Down’ podcast. He said, “I got MRIs done on my tibia and fibula on both legs, got MRIs on both of my knees, X-rays, and I’ve been waiting for a result–and I got the results back. There was no ligament tears at all. So, ACL, LCL, MCL, PCL, all those ‘Ls’ that you do not want to tear because that’s like six months to a year of recovery.

He further added that his ligaments are good. However, he informed fans that he had a fracture on his left leg. Weidman detailed that the injury took place after his opponent went for several leg kicks. When the fans learned that there was no ligament tear, they were happy for him. Nonetheless, a few fans asked him to retire so that he wouldn’t cause more damage to his body.

Fans react to Weidman’s words

During the post-fight press conference of UFC 292, the UFC president, Dana White, asked Weidman to retire to avoid doing more damage that would require a long period to recover.

According to White, he has already proven that he is a great fighter and now is the best time to retire. Some of the fans repeated the same words as White. Even they asked the former UFC middleweight champion to retire.
