Tom Aspinall’s requests to strip Jon Jones of his title has not sat well with the UFC GOAT. And now Jones has decided to address the elephant in the room himself. Jon Jones suffered a major injury while in camp training to fight Stipe Miocic. This led to the fight being called off for the time being. Since then few have raised the debate to strip him of his heavyweight championship title, Aspinall being one of them. Of course, ‘Bones’ is not amused.

The English heavyweight believes that it’s only right. Aspinall has been rather vocal about his views. But is it just because he thinks it’s unfair to hold the division hostage for one fighter, even if that fighter is the greatest of all time or is he just angling for a feud with the great one?

Aspinall has gone on record to urge the UFC to take away Jones’ belt. Would the heavyweight like to challenge for the title himself? Of course. But if that is the case, he’ll have to take the belt from Jones himself. But he has a long way to go before he can even challenge Jones for the title.

See, the champion has replied to Aspinall’s statements and while he did not take any names, Jones did refer to him as a newcomer who hasn’t done much in the UFC.

Jones declared Aspinall a “newcomer” in his most recent post. He accused him of not having proved himself by winning against “legends”. Essentially, Jones feels like Aspinall is a little bit out of his league with the stripping calls against the champion. Do you agree with Jones?

Aspinall is freshly coming off a win over Sergei Pavlovich. His knockout power is unquestionable and so is his skill as a fighter in the UFC. However, Jones has certainly proved his mettle time and time again. To the extent that he is often referred to as the GOAT of UFC and sometimes even MMA. So what went wrong with his match this time? What was the injury?

Jones’ match canceling injury

Jon Jones is a top-notch athlete. He was sparring when the injury came through and it was a painful experience. He had torn a pectoral tendon right off a bone and that’s about enough to make anyone pull out of a fight. Jones would need surgery and a long rest before he can even consider coming back.

Clearly, a lot was at stake for the match. It could have been Jones’ last career match and he was looking forward to ending it on a win. However, now, we’ll have to wait for just about a year before Jones can be fully healed and return to the cage for one last time. Would it be ideal for him to come back for just one match after such a terrifying injury? Let us know your thoughts.
