R&B singer India Arie is back on Spotify after over a year of absence from the music platform. The 47-year-old artist dropped off from Spotify last year owing to the controversy surrounding Joe Rogan and a viral clip involving the UFC commentator. Now, after marking her return to the platform, Arie, on a social media post, termed her protest a successful one; while also calling out the individuals who had questioned her decision a year ago.
As fans will be well aware, a viral clip involving Joe Rogan created quite a controversy last year, which resulted in the comedian eventually coming up with an apology video. Arie was one of the artists among many others who stood up in protest against Spotify over the issue.

India Arie claims a successful protest after making a return to Spotify
The singer and songwriter took to social media to announce that her music would be back on Spotify after more than a year of absence. She wrote: “After a successful protest! my music is back up on Spotify.”
While talking about it in a video, the four-time Grammy winner claimed that her objective was not to get Joe Rogan and his podcast canceled. She instead said that her aim was for everyone involved to be held accountable for their actions.

“I wanted three things out of this protest. I wanted him to take accountability, I wanted Spotify to take accountability, and I wanted to see systemic change in the music industry.” Arie explained.
The 47-year-old also did not shy away from slamming individuals who had questioned her decision earlier. She wrote: “All the media outlets and even ‘friends’ who talked sh*t about me let’s see if you care now that my stance impacted change.”
Following controversy involving Joe Rogan, Arie previously left the platform in protest
Multiple artists protested over Joe Rogan‘s remarks last year on the topic of spreading misinformation on COVID. Neil Young and Joni Mitchell were among the first ones who decided to pull their music from Spotify over this entire controversy. Following this, India Arie too stepped away from the platform.

Ultimately, the long-time UFC commentator had to come out with an apology video; Spotify, too, had to pull down multiple episodes of the ‘Joe Rogan Experience’ from its library.

Fortunately, as of now, the issue seems to have been settled amicably for all parties involved. And with Arie returning to the platform after her year-long protest, fans of her music will surely be delighted over the decision.
