UFC 290 proved why Alexander Volkanovski is one of the greatest UFC Featherweights of all time. From body feints to landing devastating strikes – Volkanovski put up an amazing display of Mixed Martial Arts at its best. His opponent, Yair Rodriguez, is an extremely skilled fighter who put up stiff competition against ‘The Great’.

The main event of the UFC 290 was Alexander Volkanovski vs. Yair Rodriguez. While Volkanovski has a loyal following, Rodriguez garnered huge support from UFC fans in a very short period of time. A very dangerous fighter himself, Rodriguez was considered, by many, to be the fighter who could give Volkanovski a lot of trouble. However, Volkanovski won the match by TKO, silencing anybody who doubted him.

Alexander Volkanovski won the fight against Rodriguez in spectacular fashion. The fans did show Volkanovski their support, but there was one other person who walked beside Volkanovski when he walked out, shoulder-to-shoulder. It was NBA champion Jamal Murray, the point guard for Denver Nuggets.

‘The Great’ was seen ‘rubbing elbows’ with the Point Guard at the post-fight party. Apparently, Murray was ‘fanboy-ing’ over Alexander Volkanovski, clicking pictures during the press conference. In an interview with MMAFightingonSBN on YouTube, the interviewer pointed out all of the above and asked Volkanovski about his equation with the NBA champ.

Yeah I mean… now look, we just got a good relationship. He’s a loyal dude [inaudible]… myself, so…since we are connected, uh… it’s just it, like I think he’s just… reminds me a lot of myself as well, even though – why he is… he’s very disciplined and like you know that’s – you know these work ethic and then he’s all about that, right? So it’s the same as me.” answered Volkanovski, indicating that their relationship is quite strong and that Volkanovski sees a bit of himself in Murray.

Further making the case in favor of the Denver Nuggets point guard, Volkanovski said, “And then, he’s… he’s a loyal dude man. He’s… again I feel like a… yeah I feel like we’re the same in many ways.”.

Alexander Volkanovski’s Next Fight – Which weight-class will he ‘Conquer’ now?

Alexander Volkanovski is a one-of-a-kind fighter who is feared across different UFC weight classes. Currently, the reigning Featherweight champion, Volkanovski chased after UFC Lightweight champion Islam Makhachev, to become the UFC Lightweight champion as well. However, Makhachev somehow managed to keep ‘The Great’ at bay, secured a win by decision in the end, and handed Volkanovski his first loss in the UFC.
