Is Dricus Du Plessis biting off more than he can chew by challenging Alex Pereira at 205 lbs?

Dricus Du Plessis might have achieved greatness again, but he is not done yet. As soon as he won against Israel Adesanya, the press started asking him about his future fights. He seems pretty confident because he already named two fighters who he would like to go against. Sean Strickland is already on the cards as they never got the rematch that they had wanted. However, there is another fighter who DDP has challenged. He is even ready to change his weight class for the said fighter and gave him an open challenge.

During a post-fight interview, Du Plessis said, “They said Strickland I’m like great perfect. I’m 100 percent great that’s the next one. I heard Poatan made some, I don’t know. He made a tweet saying he’s back to 185lbs. I felt Izzy’s strikes, the man Is fast and has good combos but if he knocked you out cold you do not wanna get knocked…”

“You want to face my jab. You do not want to feel the jab because ultimately that won me a fight tonight. So don’t come down to 185 lbs let me handle Sean Strickland if that’s the case, or after your fight, I’ll come to 205 lbs and then make that happen. So you don’t have an excuse of too much weight cut when I knock you out,” added the fighter.

The beef between Du Plessis and Israel Adesanya might have ended for now, but a new chapter is starting because Alex Pereira decided to challenge him next. Pereira said that he wanted to come down to middleweight after seeing the conclusion of UFC 305. He said, “I’m going down to 84kg again… Coming down to 185 one more time.” For the uninitiated, he fought in the middleweight category before, and Pereira, too, won against Israel Adesanya.

However, his move to heavyweight is more plausible after he defeated Jiri Prochazka and Jamahal Hill within 120 days of each fight. So a super fight with Jon Jones is more of a possibility. Even Morne Visser, DDP’s coach, said to Submission Radio, that moving up to 205 lbs was more plausible. On the other hand, Sean Strickland has also challenged DDP and is ready to take him on. Just as Israel Adesanya fought a bit near his home in Australia for UFC 305, Strickland wants the same. ‘Tarzan’ mentioned how he wanted to fight in front of Las Vegas.

“Time for war Dutch man… [Expecting to fight in] Vegas man. I always travel. Let me fight in my country,” Sean Strickland had stated in two of his posts on X. He would love for the rematch to happen at T Mobile arena. However, now Alex Pereira is also in the scene and wants to fight ‘ Stillknocks’ as per his latest verdicts.

Meanwhile, DDP mentioned how Strickland might get in trouble with South Africa for his opinionated mannerisms. He said, “I saw something like that. But, I mean, oh, my man, you can see Sean Strickland. South Africa, it’s different. It’s different. We saw that tonight. I said it’s the jungle out there. Sean Strickland, the way he does things, yeah, I hope he makes it to the fight.”
