Refusing Dana White’s Plans for Charles Oliveira, Defiant Islam Makhachev Reveals Insider Dustin Poirier Developments in the UFC

Islam Makhachev is eagerly awaiting his next bout. Even though there is a high chance that his next opponent will be Charles Oliveira, Makhachev seems far from pleased. His last bout was against UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski. The fight between him and ‘The Great’ was a highly close affair. When the bout reached a decision, many believed that the Australian fighter had won. However, it was Makhachev’s hand that was raised. The result of the bout became a topic of contention. There were some who believed that Makhachev deserved the victory and supported him throughout. After the Russian fighter won against Volkanovski, UFC President Dana White wanted him to fight the winner between Charles Oliveira and Beneil Dariush.

‘Do Bronx’ and Dariush faced each other at UFC 289. The outcome of the bout was totally against Makhachev’s wishes. The Dagestani wanted to fight Dariush next, but Oliveira won the bout. The Brazilian fighter was able to achieve a glorious victory via TKO in the very first round. Makhachev, who has already defeated Oliveira, was looking forward to new challenges in the lightweight division. The capabilities of Beneil Dariush impressed him and Makhachev wanted to lock horns with him. However, things didn’t turn out as he expected. In a recent interview, the Russian fighter talked about his next fight and who he wants to fight in his upcoming bout. Given the above history, unsurprisingly, Makhachev’s wishes are totally against the decision of White.

Islam Makhachev has a lot to say

In a video uploaded by YukaHero, Islam Makhachev details his upcoming bout. He mentioned how he wanted to fight in the summer, but the UFC wants him to fight in Abu Dhabi next. He said, “I was in the USA, met with the UFC. I asked for a fight in the summer. But they told me that I wouldn’t have time to fight in Abu Dhabi if I had a fight in the summer. They have a plan to organize a fight for me in Abu Dhabi.“

When asked who he would want to fight next, he took the name of Dustin Poirier. He said, “I don’t know, maybe Poirier. He has a big name in the UFC. Well… Can’t say for sure.” Makhachev also reacted to the fight happened between Dariush and Oliveira. He added, “Dariush lost. Everything turned upside down. I can’t say anything for now. If he had beat Oliveira, it would have been a good fight. Dariush’s skills were highly appreciated. It would be a good fight.” From the words of the Russian fighter, it is clear that he is not happy with Oliveira winning the bout. Now, even though the UFC boss wants a fight between Oliveira and Makhachev, the Russian has eyes on ‘The Diamond.’

Who gets to face Makhachev next?

Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev came face-to-face at UFC 280. The bout between the two tough fighters took place on October 22, 2022. The bout disappointed all the Oliveira fans, as he lost the fight in the second round. Makhachev trapped Oliveira in an arm triangle choke three minutes and sixteen seconds into the second round.

‘Do Bronx’ finally tapped to get out of the stronghold of Makhachev. This resulted in Oliveira losing his lightweight title to Makhachev. Even though the Russian wants to fight in the summer, the UFC is trying to have his next fight at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi this year.
