Although the topic has been discussed multiple times with the man himself owning up to it during his Hall of Fame speech; another UFC legend has addressed this once again in a video on his YouTube channel. While taking a look back at some of the controversial events that took place in the promotion over the years, this former fighter addressed some of the behind the scene stuff that took place as Cormier tried to make weight for his fight against the late Anthony Johnson.

Ex-UFC champ Michael Bisping took MMA fans down memory lane with his latest upload on his channel. Talking about the Top 5 scandals to have happened in the sport, Bisping started off with fellow commentator Daniel Cormier’s towel gate.
The former middleweight champ recalled that after struggling to cut the last bit of weight, Cormier had initially given up much to the surprise of his teammates.
“He was done okay. He said stick a fork in me, I am done because he refused to cut any more weight,” Bisping recalled.
The Englishman even pointed out that Cormier’s teammates tried to get the former heavyweight champ’s wife on the phone in a bid to encourage him.
“His team, they were losing their mind, and they even got his wife on the phone apparently to try and talk some sense into him.”
Bisping then explains how instead it was one of Cormier’s coaches who gave him the idea of holding onto the towel, which apparently was a practice that wrestlers often utilized to make weight. Ultimately, as they say, the rest is history. Cormier ended up making weight and successfully defended his Light heavyweight title against the late Anthony Johnson.
