Dricus du Plessis is focused on the title despite the hurdles surrounding the ‘real African’ fight

The original plan for UFC 293 was to pit Dricus du Plessis and Israel Adesanya in the main event. However, an injury halted those plans and due to the lack of credible contenders, Sean Strickland eventually became the challenger. However, ‘Tarzan’ put on the performance of his life in Sydney as he dominated the former 2-time champion and scored a unanimous decision victory.

It seems like the fans may not get to see the fight between Dricus du Plessis and Israel Adesanya. It was one of the most anticipated fights of the year. However, this does not mean much to the South African star. He recently shared a tweet mentioning that is focused more on winning the title than fighting ‘The Last Stylebender’. Du Plessis is willing to take on Strickland to achieve his goal. Moreover, he even took a jibe at Adesanya.

‘Stillknocks’ takes a swipe at Israel Adesanya

The former 2-time middleweight champion seemed out of his element at UFC 293. He could not land as many strikes as Sean Strickland did, who also showcased tremendous defensive skills. It shocked many fans, and Dricus Du Plessis took aim at Israel Adesanya in that regard.

Dricus du Plessis showed his credentials as a credible contender for the title after an amazing performance against former champion Robert Whittaker. As such, in another tweet, he reminded Adesanya that he was lucky it was not him he was fighting at UFC 293.

Du Plessis seems to hold the belief that his reign as champion is inevitable, and would have commenced already had he been in good health to compete at UFC 293. Meanwhile, Dana White has confirmed that the current plan for the middleweight title scene is a rematch between Adesanya and Strickland. We will have to wait and see how that pans out.
