After his three-year absence from the octagon and recent form, Conor McGregor is facing serious questions about his future. Many feel that the bombastic Dubliner should retire. The Irishman broke his leg in two at his UFC 264 clash against Dustin Poirier in 2021 and has been missing in action since then, recovering.

After the Irishman’s controversial response to the Dublin riots last year, many have speculated that he may be looking to join politics. However, the Irishman seems to have other career options too, post-retirement, as he has finished filming for a major Hollywood film.

Conor McGregor had been filming a remake of the 1989 classic Road House with Oscar-nominated actor Jake Gyllenhaal. The film follows an ex-UFC fighter who is employed as a bouncer for a Florida Keys bar but realizes that not everything is as it appears on the surface.

The MMA legend has stated that he would not play himself but rather a fictitious character in the film, which is scheduled to release sometime in the first half of this year. In fact, the Irishman even went to the Dominican Republic a few months ago to shoot for it.

And Gyllenhaal took to Instagram recently and announced that the filming and post-production for the film was in its final stages. He thanked the cast and crew and promised to share more updates in the coming weeks. This prompted McGregor to react through his Instagram stories.

“My man Jake G! Big things coming for you all to see real soon! @roadhousemovie is READY!” McGregor wrote, sharing a screengrab of Gyllenhaal’s post. With the shoot complete for the film, McGregor can now concentrate on Michael Chandler, who has bad intentions for the Dubliner.

Michael Chandler set to be ‘Notorious’s next opponent

Putting an end to all the speculations, Conor McGregor announced his next fight in a video posted on social media last month. ‘Notorious’ claimed that he would be fighting rival TUF 31 coach, Michael Chandler, at UFC 302 on June 29 in a middleweight bout. While this has not yet been officially confirmed by the UFC, including a straight-up denial from Dana White, both Chandler and McGregor have begun training.

Chandler would have been waiting for McGregor for nearly two years by the time they fight in June, and has been subject to ‘Mac’s signature shenanigans in that time. Not surprisingly, the former Bellator champion is pumped for the fight and has promised to break McGregor’s jaw and will, and vowed to retire the former two-division champion.
