Joe Rogan and Quinto͏n J͏ackson recently sat with each other on ‘JRE MMA Show #159 ‘ to have a very candid conversation with ‘Rampage’. The duo initially started their conversation about the emerging trends of the MMA world but it transitioned to some lesser-known facts about Jackson’s career. Amid the conversation, Jackson shared a bit about his controversial fight with Forrest Griffin.

“I used to have a really strong mind back in the day. Remember I told you about Forrest kicking me the calf kick?” Back in 2008, Jackson locked horns with Griffin to defend his light heavyweight title, however, he failed to gain the victory as Griffin won the bout by a unanimous decision. Jackson emphasized that his presence of mind helped him forget about his leg injury.

He further added, “Yeah, bro, my mind was so strong back then. I healed my leg up in between rounds. My s*it was in pain, but I was mentally strong. I also think that’s why I lost that fight, because I had the manager at the time that I wasn’t—I didn’t trust him anymore. I remember him saying, ‘If Rampage loses this fight, I’m going to retire.'”

The then-light heavyweight champion didn’t mince or sugarcoat his words when the media asked him about his defeat against Forrest Griffin. Jackson really went on a rampage after the defeat and stated that the real MMA fans understood that he was the real victor of the clash. “I got hurt. I couldn’t fight Glover. I didn’t want to wait that long.”

He further added, “Forrest’s opponent [Chael Sonnen] pulled out. Why not just go fight Forrest? I don’t care. I’ll fight Forrest and I’ll still fight Glover later. Everyone knows I’ve been gunning for Forrest, because anyone who knows MMA—anyone who’s got a true heart, a real heart, and [is] not a bigot—they know I won that fight. That’s real talk.”

Jackson got another chance to claim the light heavyweight title, however, his opponent was Jon Jones. Regardless, what’s your take on Jackson’s statements on Joe Rogan’s podcast? State your thoughts in the comments below.
