Is Dana White purposely sabotaging UFC events, or was this just a rare slip-up?

UFC CEO Dana White may be accused of underpaying his fighters and indulging in monopolistic practices. However, his latest stunt has crossed the line for many fans, who have turned against the Las Vegas resident online.

The whole affair started when Dana White took to his Instagram page about an hour ago to tell fans that he would be going live in about 45 minutes. True to his word, the UFC boss did go live at the appointed hour, but did something that the fans felt ‘betrayed’. The UFC boss announced that he will be announcing the full UFC Noche card (UFC 306 at the iconic Sphere in Las Vegas on September 14 to commemorate Mexican Independence Day) tomorrow.

A leak during a Fight Night card earlier this month has given fans a preview of what to expect. There were rumors that Valentina Shevchenko will face Mexican women’s flyweight champion Alexa Grasso on the card. However, it seems Shevchenko turned it down, having had a terrible experience on the Noche card last year.

The French-Canadian broadcast of the UFC Denver card earlier this month had inadvertently let it slip that featherweight champion Ilia Topuria will take on BMF champ Max Holloway in the main event. This, they mentioned, will be preceded by 135-pound champ Sean O’Malley defending his title against #1 title contender Merab Dvalishvili in the co-main event. However, the main and co-main events are not a done deal until Dana White officially announces it, and things may have changed since then, and White may announce an entirely different line-up.

Despite fans’ outrage, the UFC CEO did make one notable announcement: the launch of the UFC Fight Club subscription, which fans can buy to give them early access to UFC event tickets along with numerous other benefits. Fans, however, were having none of it and were still mad at the UFC 306 non-announcement.

Fans up in arms at Dana White’s betrayal

What’s your perspective on:

Is Dana White purposely sabotaging UFC events, or was this just a rare slip-up?

Have an interesting take?

Fans took to the internet to call out the UFC CEO for announcing he would be announcing something shortly, only to announce that he would announce something the next day. One fan pointed out the absurdity of Dana White leading fans on just for it to come to nothing, not sure if they should laugh or cry at it: “Dana White really hit us with an announcement of an announcement. 😭😅”

Another fan felt that the UFC CEO could just have made the announcement the next day instead of wasting fans’ time by telling them he would do so: “Should’ve just waited till tomorrow wtf was the point of that lmao”

Another fan interpreted White’s non-announcement as a promotional mistake from the UFC CEO, and wondered if he was deliberately trying to turn fans against the upcoming historic card: “Is he purposely sabotaging 304?? Rare promo mistake from Dana imo but tf do I know”

Another felt that the card had a tough competition in Mexican boxing superstar Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez‘s boxing match against Edgar Berlanga in Vegas on the same night: “This best be good 🇲🇽 it has the small task of competing with Canelo in Vegas.” What are your thoughts on Dana White’s announcement of an announcement?
