Conor McGregor won over UFC fans with his trash-talk and outside the Octagon antics, but most importantly, his ability to back his words with spectacular performances inside the Octagon. Defeating Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight championship at UFC 205 was the peak of his UFC career. Although this remained his only win in the division, ‘The Notorious’ featured among the top 10 lightweights in the UFC rankings for the past 6 years.

The latest update in UFC rankings came after UFC Vegas 57: Tsarukyan vs. Gamrot. After getting a razor-thin victory in his first UFC main event, Gamrot jumped four spots to #8. Meanwhile, ‘The Notorious‘, previously at #8, slipped four spots and now has a number (12) next to his name.

McGregor’s downward slide in the latest update had fans chiming in with different takes.

One fan guessed the latest rumors of Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor II could’ve resulted in the Irishman’s dip in the ranking.

Few believed the UFC should’ve removed ‘The Notorious‘ from the top 15 as he has gone 0-3 at 155 since becoming the champion at the mecca of fighting, MSG.

Two of those three losses came in 2021 against Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier at UFC 257 and UFC 264; the other one came in 2018 against Khabib ‘The Eagle‘ Nurmagomedov at UFC 229. In between, he won a fight against Donald ‘Cowboy‘ Cerrone at UFC 246 in the welterweight division.

However, there were few McGregor fans who believed he should’ve kept his spot in the rankings.

‘The Notorious’ never departed the top 10, even though he was stripped of the belt in 2018 due to inactivity.

Apart from Conor McGregor, what other changes occurred in UFC rankings

The Fight Night event at the UFC Apex saw some marvelous performances from young prospects, which resulted in shuffles in the UFC standings.

Co-main event winner Shavkat Rakhmonov moved five spots to capture the #10 ranking in the welterweight division. His counterpart, Neil Magny, slipped two spots and is now at #12.

Umar Nurmagomedov, who won his contest via a unanimous decision, entered the bantamweight rankings at #15.
