Almost two years after experiencing a horrific injury that saw his leg snap in half, former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman is back in action again. But instead of setting foot in the octagon, the American decided to ease himself into the combat scene by participating in a grappling event that went down recently. And although his efforts on the mat were not enough to get his hands raised, Weidman importantly finds himself in the mix and raring to go yet again.

Fighting back tears during his post-match interview, the UFC veteran promised a return to the octagon very soon. This naturally drew reactions from fans of the 38-year-old who had won UFC gold back in 2013 after beating Anderson Silva.

Following the loss to Owen Livesey, Weidman took on the mic, looking evidently emotional, as he thanked his supporters and family for the constant motivation. Showing appreciation for the moment, he also expressed happiness at the fact that he was back competing again in front of a crowd.

“I wasn’t sure I was ever going to be able to compete again in anything, and so to able to come out here and put a show for you guys, win or lose, is truly a dream.” He expressed.

The former middleweight champ also showed his desire to get back in the UFC cage once again in the future. “And all you haters that just think I suck and think I should retire, thanks for the motivation. Cause I’m going to prove you guys wrong when I get to a UFC fight.”

Appreciation from his fans and followers poured in as they showered respect on Weidman.

Years after making his professional debut and being one of the initial fighters to represent modern MMA, it’s quite obvious that Weidman still commands respect among serious combat fans.
