Sean Strickland and Paulo Costa went up against each other in the co-main event of UFC 302. Strickland and Costa exchanged quite a few blows but it was the former middleweight champion who claimed the victory via split decision. Unfortunately, the fighting community deemed the fight as a boring one. ‘Tarzan’ was of the same opinion and he apologized to the fight fans for it. But that didn’t stop him from bashing Khamzat Chimaev

In the post-fight press conference, Strickland was asked about his opinion on Chimaev’s next fight with Robert Whittaker at UFC on ABC 6. However, ‘Tarzan’ was simply not happy with the long breaks that Dana White provided to the fighters after they fought just a single bout. Let’s see what Strickland had to say about it.

Fresh off of his split decision victory over ‘The Eraser’, Strickland apologized to the fans for displaying a not-so-interesting fight. But when a reporter asked the former champion about Chimaev vs. Whittaker, he said that he would wait till the fight was over. It was indeed what the MMA promotion apparently desired of him and he was willing to oblige. “I’ll wait. I mean again, if that’s what the UFC wants, I’ll f***ing wait, you know,” Strickland said.

But his beef was with the fighters like the ‘Chechen Wolf’. ‘Tarzan’ was simply disappointed at the fighters who fought one match and then disappeared for 8 long months. It was indeed an arrow notched to fire at Chimaev if he won his next bout. The Californian just wanted to fight the winner of Chimaev vs. Whittaker, as soon as possible.

Strickland said, “The problem with these f***ing c**ts, bro, besides Whittaker, they get a fight and they take like 8 months off. Like, what the f***! What are your guys doing these 8 months? What are you guys doing for 8 months? Say yes to the fight. Go f***ing fight. I don’t understand why these a***oles take so much time off.”

But talks about Strickland facing Chimaev were already on the netizens’ minds ever since the 33-year-old mixed martial artist defeated Dricus Du Plessis, back in UFC 297. An insider had made speculation about the fight much before the events of UFC 302.

MMA insiders speculated ‘Tarzan’ vs. ‘Borz’ fight

Right after the events of UFC 297, the former mixed martial artist and the current MMA analyst for ESPN, Michael Bisping, opined that Strickland should fight Chimaev next, on his talk show, ‘Believe Me You’. He said, “hey Sean vs Khamzat, because when you start talking that kinda sh*t, that’s gonna get a response from somebody like Sean, you would have thought.”

But ‘The Count’ wasn’t the only one to talk about the matchup. Josh Thompson from the ‘Weighin In’ podcast also sided with Bisping’s opinion. He claimed that the UFC had plans for the Chechnyan fighter. It was either Du Plessis or Strickland, to enter the Octagon against Chimaev, following his fight with Whittaker. “They’ve got plans for him, everyone keeps talking about it. They want to see him and DDP or they want to see him and Strickland and, and, I don’t get, I’m not mad at it,” said Thomson. After Strickland’s rant against the 8-month break, it’s not hard to see him landing against Chimaev in his next fight at the UFC.
