Jon Jones believes a grudge fight between him and Israel Adesanya will never see the light of day. Both fighters share a heated rivalry that goes long back and have lashed out at each other on multiple occasions. While ‘Bones’ blasted ‘The Last Stylebender’ for turning in weak displays, Adesanya pointed out how Jones always landed on the wrong side of the law. The scathing exchange, however, never reached its conclusion in the Octagon.

With the 35-year-old pulling down curtains on his career with a showdown at Madison Square Garden against Stipe Miocic, the fans have lost the last glimmer of hope of a potential fight between them. Jones intends to hang his gloves later this year, while he had just bagged the heavyweight gold against Ciryl Gane at UFC 285 in March. The heavyweight champion himself recently weighed in and clarified his stance.

Jon Jones’ legacy and career have gone past Israel Adesanya

Jones, in an interview with Fox Sports Australia, discussed the upcoming two-week-long promotional tour to Australia. The Rochester native also entertained the probability of crossing paths with the Kiwi fighter during the tour. Further, when asked about whether a fight with the New Zealander was on the cards, Jones shunned the talks.

He said, “No, I feel like my legacy and my career is past his, you know. This was like an Instagram following competition then yeah we’d be neck to neck. But when it comes to our body of work, there’s no competition. And there’s no reason for me to compare myself to him.”

Meanwhile, the 27-1-1 record holder also softened his perception of the middleweight champion. Not only did Jones acknowledge Adesanya’s achievements but also called him a ‘star’. Therefore, he saw no reason to put their career on a scale.

Jones has a change of heart for Israel Adesanya

Jones stated, “He’s [Israel Adesanya] done great things. And you know, people say there’s lots of room in the sky for many stars. And he is undoubtedly a star. But I feel like our careers are really uncomparable.”

He then summed up, “Not a fight that I need, no.”
