It’s been a few days of ‘pandamonium’ for the fight fans with Dricus Du Plessis soaking up all the news about his alleged injury. Claims ranging from how his alleged pullout was responsible for shattering the headliner for UFC 317 to how the injury could render him unable to fight for at least six months, as Khamzat Chimaev waits for his title shot. Moreover, #6 ranked Caio Borralho decided to shoot his shot when he heard, from sources around Du Plessis’ camp, that the champion was injured. He went on to push for an interim title fight against Chimaev during International Fight Week, claiming, “The only thing that makes sense is the interim belt!”
However, there wasn’t anything concrete on this ‘injury’ front, and now, the reigning champ has offered his side of the story. Du Plessis recently shared an Instagram post, where he was seen as fit as he can be, and he also left some good news for his fans and the aforementioned rivals. The South African juggernaut isn’t hurt at all! ‘Stillknocks’ has also assured the fans that Dana White has given him his date for his next title defense as well, but it’s not in June. So, it seems like Ilia Topuria, who recently claimed to have started his training camp, could be gearing up for the biggest card of the year. Regardless, ‘Stillknocks’ claimed that the announcement will be out pretty soon.
“Okey so everyone had their opinions and rumors, and stories about a shin break and injuries, etc. I found it all very entertaining. Unfortunately, none of it is true. Myself and [UFC] already discussed a fight date and opponent,” Dricus Du Plessis stated on social media. “The June fight was never signed. I did not pull out of any fight. I am the champion. I know when I fight, you, as a contender, show up when we tell you to. Fight announcement coming soon, stay tuned.”

Hearing this statement from Du Plessis would certainly calm down Khamzat Chimaev’s nerves because he recently went ballistic on the South African, calling him “bulls–t,” triggering a response from the champion as well. Meanwhile, ‘Stillknocks’ has never shown any kind of hesitation when it comes to questions about giving Chimaev a title shot. The Chechen star even got backing from UFC legend Daniel Cormier as well.
Khamzat Chimaev should have been fighting for the title already, Daniel Cormier claims
Khamzat Chimaev has been one of those UFC fighters who had a pretty swift rise to the top of the food chain. While he has had issues with his weight cuts, he’s dominated in both the welterweight and the middleweight divisions, all while remaining undefeated. Hence, Daniel Cormier believes that there should be no other fighter taking his place (not even Caio Borralho) because he expected ‘Borz’ to get a title before we reached 2025.

“The number one contender, who is Khamzat Chimaev…and rightfully deserves a chance to fight for the belt now,” Daniel Cormier stated on his YouTube channel. “It’s been so long that we thought that this guy would be fighting for the belt, if not the champion, that it’s time.” Although we have the confirmation from Dricus du Plessis, we still don’t have an official word yet, and we’ll have to wait and watch out for that one.
