UFC 285 card featuring Jon Jones vs. Ciryl Gane suffered its first casualty when a hand injury forced out Dan Hooker from his bout against Jalin Turner. The #11 ranked lightweight suffered a broken hand, which rendered him unable to compete in the upcoming PPV. The UFC had kept Turner on the card in the hopes of finding a replacement. Now, they have found a short-notice replacement for the 6 ft 3 in lightweight. Furthermore, Hooker’s injury has proven to be a blessing in disguise for Turner, who is now getting a higher-ranked opponent.
No.7 ranked lightweight Mateusz Gamrot has stepped in to face Jalin Turner at UFC 285. This is Gamrot’s first fight since losing to Beneil Dariush at UFC 280.

Jalin Turner was set to fight an opponent ranked below him. While Dan Hooker sits at the #11 spot, he is a fan favorite and has wins against reputed names on his resume. However, a fight against Gamrot is definitely a bigger opportunity.

A fight against the 32-year-old Gamrot offers Turner a chance to shoot up the rankings. However, Gamrot is a different profile from what Turner was preparing for.
While Hooker was a long rangy striker, Gamrot is a gritty wrestler. His fight against Arman Tsarukyan was a testament to his wrestling prowess. Therefore, Turner has his work cut out for him at UFC 285.
The updated Jon Jones vs. Ciryl Gane main card
At UFC 285, Jon Jones will make his much-awaited heavyweight debut against Ciryl Gane. Returning from a three-year layoff, ‘Bones’ will face ‘Bon Gamin’ for the UFC heavyweight title. In addition to the return of Jones, UFC 285 boasts another title fight and other blockbuster matchups, making it a stacked PPV.
In the co-main event, female flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko will defend her title against #5 ranked Alexa Grasso. Currently, on a nine-fight win streak, this will be Shevchenko’s eighth title defense.
