Like his famous cousin Khabib, Umar Nurmagomedov is an undefeated fighter in the UFC. The #14-ranked bantamweight has won all sixteen of his pro-MMA fights and is a promising prospect in the promotion, expected to contend for the title in the near future.
Recently, Sean O’Malley poked Islam Makhachev, who has indicated his desire to move up to welterweight and face champion Leon Edwards for a shot at becoming double-champion, by claiming “Leon beats Islam.” This prompted Makhachev to declare that “Umar beats Suga” in a tweet. This did not please the bantamweight champion one bit, whose reply to Makhachev’s tweet elicited a response from Umar himself.

Sean O’Malley had a terse response to UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev’s tweet claiming Umar Nurmagomedov would beat him in a fight. The master striker proclaimed that he’ll “beat the unibrow off Umar [sic]” in a quote tweet. Umar Nurmagomedov, who had been on the sidelines to this point, seemingly took offense to the 29-year-old’s tweet and dared O’Malley to fight him, “pink head. To do this you need to dare to fight with me.” Umar tweeted.

Umar, however, is not close to a title shot yet, being ranked #14 in the division. O’Malley will defend his title for the first time against Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera at UFC 299 in March next year, after which he will most probably face the winner of the upcoming Merab Dvalishvili vs. Henry Cejudo UFC 298 bout.
But the undefeated Dagestani needs to face a few more top-ranked fighters and work his way up to a shot at bantamweight gold. In the meantime, the bantamweight champion will look to get even with Vera for humiliating him the last time they met in the Octagon.

O’Malley vs. Vera to headline UFC
Sean O’Malley has only one loss in his pro-MMA career. ‘Chito’ Vera defeated the flamboyant bantamweight in the first round of their UFC 252 bout. He struck O’Malley’s peroneal nerve, causing his foot to fall asleep. ‘Suga’ has refused to accept this loss and felt the freak injury was the only reason he lost.

This is why ‘Suga’ is eager to avenge the only loss on his record at UFC 299 in Miami, Florida. Many UFC fans were upset and felt that #1 ranked Merab Dvalishvili deserved to fight for the bantamweight title next. However, if the Georgian defeats Cejudo in February 2024, he will almost certainly fight for the title next.
