Dricus Du Plessis and his team have made a stunning revelation about a potential fight at UFC 300! Du Plessis, the new 185 lbs champion, called out Israel Adesanya in his post-fight interview at UFC 297 and challenged him to return to the UFC for a showdown, to which Adesanya responded cryptically through social media.

The pair were originally set to clash at UFC 293 last year, but due to injury issues, Sean Strickland stepped up instead and claimed the title with a shock upset over Adesanya. But with the belt now having changed hands, and both men raring to take on each other, the comments by Du Plessis’s manager highlight the possibility of them clashing at the historic UFC 300 card!

After securing the middleweight title at UFC 297 with a split decision victory over Strickland, Du Plessis set his sights on former champion, Israel Adesanya. In his post-fight interview, he stated, “He didn’t get into the cage tonight but Israel Adesanya, get your a* back to the UFC so we can settle the score.”

Despite no official word from the UFC or Dana White on the matchup yet, insights from Du Plessis’s manager, Danny Rubenstein, suggest that careful consideration was given to Adesanya’s readiness before the call-out.

In his appearance on the ‘Anik & Florian’ podcast, Rubenstein stated, “Very honestly, like, he wasn’t going to call out Izzy if Izzy wasn’t going to be ready. Like I hit up Izzy’s manager and was like ‘Hey, is Izzy going to be ready, we’re gonna call out Izzy but if he’s not going to be ready for 300, I don’t want Dricus barking up the wrong tree.”

He further went on to reveal that he received the confirmation before UFC 297 from Adesanya’s team on the phone call, “they told me Izzy would be ready, so that was the, you know, we talked as a team and that was a call out he made.”  The statement indicates that Israel Adesanya is seemingly ready to return to the Octagon at UFC 300 and attempt to reclaim the title he once held!

Robert Whittaker picks Du Plessis over Adesanya

Robert Whittaker believes that Dricus du Plessis will be too much to handle for Israel Adesanya in a potential showdown! Whittaker, having faced both du Plessis and Adesanya, revealed his thoughts on the matchup in a recent appearance on ‘The MMA Hour.’ He stated, “But he’s a tough guy. He’s awkward and he’s going to be pushing forward that entire time. It doesn’t matter if he’s getting hit, he showed that tenacity in that fight. So I’ll go DDP.”
