A second bout between Petr Yan and Aljamain Sterling has been one of the most awaited fights. The reason behind this is the manner in which their last fight at UFC 259 ended. Therefore, everybody wanted another fight with a conclusive outcome.
Plus, with 2022 rolling in, it would be odd if this bout didn’t take place. As Yan is the interim champion and Sterling holds the bantamweight title, this is a fight that cannot be pushed back anymore.
Recently, the Russian fighter took to Twitter to share a piece of highly exciting news with UFC fans. He confirmed that a title fight between him and ‘Funk Master’ is on and the agreement has been signed. He wrote, “New promotional deal and title defense agreement is signed”.

Brett Okamoto shared further details about this bout. This fight is expected to take place on March 5 at UFC 272. As Okamoto pointed out, this is an extremely important bout for both the fighters. It would give Yan the chance to redeem his previous loss. While on the other hand, it could give Sterling the perfect opportunity to shut his naysayers.
Further, ‘No Mercy’ and Sterling have had a lot of back and forth on social media and have called each other out on various occasions. So there are a lot of different aspects that make this fight extremely interesting to watch.

Yan became the bantamweight champion after knocking out Jose Aldo. His bout against Sterling was going to be his first title defense. However, when he landed an illegal knee on his opponent’s head, Yan got disqualified and Sterling became the new champion.

Owing to such an unfortunate end to the fight, fans were not happy. Many felt Sterling was ‘acting’ injured so that the bout could end. Others questioned if he really deserved the title.
