After becoming the UFC’s biggest star, Conor McGregor has set his eyes on Hollywood. The Irishman has been away from the UFC Octagon since 2021. There have been strong rumors about his return, but nothing is finalized as of now. But his inactivity has not stopped the Irishman from elevating his mainstream fame to another level. Soon, we will see ‘The Notorious’ put on his acting shoes for the first time.

The 1989 classic Road House is being remade, and McGregor has a prominent part in the movie. Moreover, it features top Hollywood stars like Jake Gyllenhaal and Daniela Melchior. This seems like a perfect launchpad for the Irishman’s acting career. But just like his MMA career, McGregor’s acting ventures are also filled with ups and downs.

When Conor McGregor’s Hollywood debut in Road House was announced, it felt like fans were at the edge of their seats. The reboot of the 1989 classic seemed like the perfect first film for the MMA star. Moreover, it was also heavily promoted during the UFC 285 PPV. However, a recent update has come as a shock to all McGregor fans.

According to MMAMania, fans might not get to witness the Irishman’s debut in theaters. Apparently, the makers of the film are going for a direct-to-digital release. This isn’t the first hurdle to the release of the movie. The recent SAG-AFTRA strike heavily affected Road House.

Further, lead actor Jake Gyllenhaal seems very unhappy with this decision. Another point to be noted here is that the recent development comes after the Road House makers arranged a special screening for Jeff Bezos. This is clearly a major setback for McGregor’s Hollywood debut.

Did Conor McGregor delay his UFC return due to Road House?

For months now, there have been speculations about McGregor’s UFC return. Initially, it was thought that the Irishman would take a year to recover from the injury. However, it has been more than 2 years, and his return fight is still not finalized. Moreover, fans do not know the exact reason why his return is being delayed.

While not officially confirmed, Road House can be a reason! Last year, it was revealed that ‘The Notorious’ put up substantial weight for his role in the movie. McGregor, who last competed in the 155-lbs division, went up to 185 lbs to fit the character. This weight change, combined with the total time he took to prepare and shoot, might have delayed his return to the UFC.

Is Conor McGregor the highest-paid debutant in Hollywood?

The Dublin-born MMA fighter has earned more money than anyone else in the UFC Octagon. Moreover, his recent statements tell us that McGregor might have achieved a similar financial achievement in Hollywood as well. A few weeks ago, McGregor declared himself the ‘highest-paid first-time actor’.

According to sources, this feat previously belonged to Neil Diamond. He earned $3.5 million for the lead role in The Jazz Singer. If the UFC’s first double champ is to be believed, he has earned more than $3.5 million for Road House. However, even after earning such a hefty cheque, the Irishman would not be happy with a digital release!
