Colby Covington has once again grabbed the attention of the media, not just in MMA but across all sports. ‘Chaos’ took over the headlines after he smashed Tyron Woodley to earn a fifth-round TKO. However, his patented heel persona rubbed many people the wrong way when he attended the post-fight presser.

UFC commentator Joe Rogan had spoken out about Covington in a past episode of  The Joe Rogan Experience‘ Podcast. Chiefly, Rogan previewed everything that made Covington distinct as an independent promoter in the fight game. The episode aired just a few weeks out from his world title fight against Kamaru Usman for the undisputed championship.

The owner of the largest podcast, Joe Rogan, provides an interesting look into Colby that fans might often overlook. Moreover, casual UFC fans often underestimate the true skill level that Covington brings to the table.

“People wanna pretend Colby can’t fight. He’s a real problem cause that style of shit-talking is infuriating and you can’t say a goddamn thing to him cause he’s in a character…He can say whatever he wants. He’s a real fighter, he’s absolutely one of the best welterweights in the world and it’s a very, very close fight [UFC 245].”

Colby’s recent comments have attracted a lot of attention to himself. As per Rogan, who spoke out in December 2019, Covington had played both sides effectively.

“The thing is about his style, this thing that he’s doing, not his style but his promotion style, with the cheap suits and the f**king book, you think it’s a joke. Then you watch his fights, and if you didn’t have any information about his character and you just watch his fights you’ll be like ‘f**k man, this guy is driven.’ You add into that his character and everyone’s pretending that that guy’s a joke. That joke is running over everybody. It’s a genius thing to attach himself to Trump.”

Rogan doubled down on his stance and praised the Oregon native for his abilities under the bright lights. In this regard, he said, “Colby Covington is a nightmare for anyone in the division. He’s a f**king nightmare. He seems like he’s playing…He’s making it seem like he’s good and you don’t notice that along the way, this guy is stomping world-class fighters.”

Despite criticism from fans and the media, Covington’s skill set is undeniable. Furthermore, after his decimation of Tyron Woodley, another shot at ‘The Nigerian Nightmare‘ may well be around the corner.
