Conor McGregor is not doing well as a coach on The Ultimate Fighter season 31, having narrowly avoided a clean sweep at the hands of Team Michael Chandler. And some people (including Chandler, who accused the Irishman of not being present for his team, leading to a physical altercation between the two) put the blame squarely on McGregor’s coaching.
But it seems this may be unwarranted, and McGregor may not be to blame after all, if welterweight and probably the nicest guy in the UFC, Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson, is to be believed. ‘Wonderboy’, spoke to the Fight Fluency channel on Youtube ahead of his bout against Michel Pereira at UFC 291 next week and talked about guest coaching for Team McGregor on this season of The Ultimate Fighter.

The Welterweight explained that he was invited by ‘Notorious’ to be a guest coach on his team and talked about McGregor’s coaching. The American was all praise for McGregor’s coaching ability. “He was great, man. I mean, he kept up a positivity with those guys that most people couldn’t keep up with, right? Especially as a teacher, it’s very taxing,” he said.
‘Wonderboy’ was also impressed by McGregor’s positivity despite the string of losses that his team suffered. But, he tried his best to motivate them nonetheless.“But he made sure that he was there for his guys and any questions for his guys. And most importantly, after the losses that his guys took, he was the positive guy, right. He was there; he was there to pick his guys back up and say let’s go,” he added.

Thompson shared a poignant piece of advice his dad shared with him and said McGregor really cares for his team. He felt the camera didn’t show this side of McGregor to the audience. “You know, and one thing that my dad taught was people don’t care how much you know. They want to know how much you care, you know, and he had that. And a lot of times maybe the camera didn’t get a whole lot of that or enough of that of Conor.” said Thompson.

Team McGregor is down 7-1 to Team Chandler on season 31 of The Ultimate Fighter. However, according to Wonderboy, it is not because of McGregor, who is trying his best. But, then again, Thompson is a very nice guy, who never has a bad word to say about anyone. What do you think about Stephen Thompson’s analysis of McGregor’s coaching?
