All good fights need a good storyline. What made the Conor McGregorKhabib Nurmagomedov or Israel AdesanyaSean Strickland bouts so exciting was the genuine bad blood that existed between those men. This is the same reason fans are excited about the upcoming Khamzat Chimaev vs. Paulo Costa bout at UFC 294 on October 21 in the UAE.

However, fans were spooked when Costa recently revealed that he had undergone surgery on his right elbow, raising the prospect of Costa pulling out. But, former UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and former UFC welterweight Ben Askren raised doubts on Costa’s injury

Daniel Cormier told former Bellator champion Ben Askren that Paulo Costa’s injury seemed like a staph infection to him. He based this opinion upon the picture the Brazilian posted. “Paulo Costa on the other hand said he had surgery and he posted a picture of his arm. If I’m being honest, to me that looked like he had staph infection,” the former two-division champion said.

Askren agreed and speculated that perhaps ‘Borrachina’ had undergone surgery as a result of a really bad case of staph infection. “That’s what I was thinking I thought the same… They never say exactly what he had surgery on, so maybe he had surgery because he had a really bad staph infection. That’s the potential, right?” Askren told ‘DC’.

The Chechen even messaged ‘Borrachina’s girlfriend images of Israel Adesanya disrespecting the Brazilian after beating him at UFC 253.
