UFC middleweight contender, Paulo Costa took to Twitter recently to post a cryptic message. Costa, who last fought at UFC 253, suffered his first defeat in the promotion against the middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya. While many believed the Brazilian will be a tough test for ‘The Last Stylebender’ with his forward-moving brawler style, that clearly wasn’t the case.

Adesanya chopped down Costa with brutal leg kicks before eventually attacking the top. A solid connection to the temple put Costa down on the floor and some ground and pound followed that prompted the referee to step in and stop the contest. It was one of the more lackluster performances of Costa’s career so far.

Now Costa posted a tweet mocking his former rival. ‘The Eraser’ had claimed previously that he got drunk the night before the fight as he was having trouble sleeping. That led to him not being able to perform to his full ability when the Octagon door closed.

Many, including ‘Stylebender’ himself, suggested that those were some lame excuses from Costa to justify his poor performance. And to be honest, he was outclassed by Adesanya’s wizardry in the striking department of the game.

There was a lot of trash talk between the duo leading up to the fight. However, Adesanya stepped up to the occasion in the fight itself. Costa, not so much.

Will there be a rematch between Paulo Costa and Israel Adesanya down the line?

Despite his loss, Costa remains one of the top middleweight fighters on the planet. He will take on Marvin Vettori next in the main event of a UFC Fight Night card. Fans expect the contest to be a barn burner. A win for ‘Borrachinha’ will put him right back in contention of another title shot.

Adesanya is expected to take on Robert Whittaker next in a rematch. If Costa can put together a good winning streak and Izzy is still the champion of the middleweight division, a rematch is obviously a possibility.
