Meet Paul Rimmer, Paddy Pimblett’s coach

Paul Rimmer, since his teen years, was involved in karate and Japanese wrestling. At the age of 21, he quit his job and left his office to travel to California, USA from Liverpool, England. There, he joined the Next Generation Fighting Academy in Irvine, where he trained all day every day for nine months under the guidance of Chris Brennan.

After returning to his country, Rimmer eventually opened a two-floor gym in the Febric District area, drawing youngsters to the MMA gym. Fighters like McCann and Paddy Pimblett were attracted, shifting the city’s focus from predominantly football to MMA. The gym is now home to 15 professionals across four MMA promotions, including UFC, Bellator, Cage Warriors, and Oktagon. Here, two coaches take center stage: Hampson leads full-body and sparring sessions, while Paul Rimmers sits on the floor, observing everyone’s training and refining their moves and stances, actively engaging in coaching from time to time.

And for Pimblett, Rimmer is the reason to stay. Talking about Rimmer, Pimblett once said, “There have been people in Liverpool who have tried to lie and tell people that they’re my head coach. But Paul Rimmer is my only head coach. He is like a father figure to me, to be honest. Call him my second dad, we call him uncle Rimmer. Everyone in the gym calls him uncle Rimmer. Behind my father, he is probably the biggest role model I got. He doesn’t get enough credit for the hard years he’s been there.”

Where does Paddy Pimblett train? Gym and teammates

Paddy Pimblett is notable for his weight-cut and weight-management skills, attributed to his great metabolism. Pimblett has previously asserted that he relies on and follows a calorie-deficit regimen on and off. He has also emphasized that it’s not a big deal for him, once stating, “I’d rather be fat and happy than ripped.” Besides his metabolism, credit for his transformation goes to his gym, Next Generation MMA Liverpool, located on Kempston Street, a notable gym in England.

Alongside Paddy Pimblett, former Cage Warriors champion Molly McCann, also known as ‘Meatball Molly’, trains there. The gym serves not only as a training facility but also provides employment opportunities through sports for youngsters at risk, spanning industries like construction, housing security, and teaching, offering them a chance to start afresh. The duo also train with Matthew Bonner, Chris Fishgold, Adam Cullen, Shaqueme Rock, and many others.
