Former UFC double champ, Conor McGregor has been teasing a return inside the octagon for quite some time now. The Irishman revealed during the last day of December 2023, that he would be returning for UFC 302 against former Bellator lightweight champion, Michael Chandler. Yet, the UFC CEO, Dana White, revealed otherwise.

White denied McGregor’s statements about returning inside the octagon at UFC 302, in the post-fight press conference of UFC 297. However, Chandler’s teammate Gilbert Burns talked about the possibility of the fight taking place regardless.

In a recent podcast episode of “Weighing in”, Gilbert ‘Durinho’ Burns joined Big John McCarthy and Josh Thomson. In the episode, Gilbert Burns touched on the matchup between his teammate, Michael Chandler, and Conor McGregor at middleweight.

When asked by Big John, if the fight at middleweight between the Irishman and the American makes sense, Gilbert Burn, with a smile across his face claimed that it made sense for him. He stated, “These guys are funny like I don’t know. Michael’s kind of… that his walk around weight you know. He walks around when 185. I don’t know Connor, maybe after the injury or his leg he went up but he was never that big.”

Durinho further went on to say that in his assumption, McGregor looked like he normally walked around 178, 175 lbs. But for why the fight was made at middleweight, the Brazilian humorously stated, “Conor owns a little bit of the company so he does wherever he wants. So I guess he asked and they said yes.”

The welterweight seems to believe that the fight will come to fruition. But the UFC CEO, Dana White, has thrown McGregor’s announcement of his return into turmoil. So when can we expect to see McGregor inside the octagon?
