The Joe Rogan Experience or the JRE is a pretty self-explanatory name for the show. In fact, other podcasts that feature Joe Rogan and guests like ‘The JRE MMA Show’ and ‘Fight Companion’ also don’t need much clarity for the fans or newer listeners. However, there is one show whose name has been the cause of much speculation!

And so, in a clip shared on Reddit from the JRE episode no. 1912 with Steven Rinella in 2022, Rogan had revealed the surprising origins behind the ‘Protect our Parks’ podcast that he hosts with fellow comedians. His insights shed more light on how “the most ridiculous podcast ever” came into being!

The ‘Protect our Parks’ podcast features Joe Rogan along with guests like comedian Shane Gillis, Mark Normand, and Ari Shaffir. The show’s popularity is such that on a past Instagram update about an episode being available for streaming, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson commented on the post, “Love these motherf***ers.”

So, during Rinella’s appearance on the JRE, Rogan revealed that “Like there’s this podcast I do called ‘Protect our Parks’ and it’s a joke name”. He went on to explain that the name originated due to a joke between him, Gillis, and Normand who teased Ari Shaffir because he wanted to save a park in New York City.

Rogan stated, “There was a park in New York City they were gonna level and now it’s like f**king condos and they’re gonna put a prison there and a bunch of sh*t.  And he was like, ‘It’s a f**king great park, this is bullsh*t and do what you can try to…’ so we were ragging on him like, ‘Ari, we gotta protect this park Ari’ and obviously, they did level it. So the name of the podcast became ‘Protect our Parks’. Just for fun.”

Joe hilariously explains the origin story of the ‘Protect our parks’ podcast and talks about the benefits of being a comedian.

He also emphasized that the podcast is characterized by its casual and chaotic atmosphere, with four friends engaging in uninhibited conversations. Although the podcast may lack seriousness, Rogan clarified that the outrageous statements made on the show are intended purely for entertainment purposes.

Despite its unconventional style, the podcast’s humorous origins and uninhibited discussions contribute to its unique appeal among listeners and highlight why Rogan remains one of the top podcasters on multiple platforms.

In fact, Rogan’s new deal with Spotify may have also caused Neil Young to return to the platform after previous protests against the JRE and its content!

Spotify return for Neil Young marked by sarcastic ‘welcome’ from Rogan

Neil Young announced on his website that he’s bringing his music back to Spotify after a two-year absence, drawing a sarcastic remark from Joe Rogan, who might have influenced the musician’s decision to step away from the platform. In January 2022, Young removed his music from Spotify as he’d claimed, “They can have Rogan or Young. Not both.” But in a recent update, he stated that he is returning to the platform because, “My decision comes as other music services, Apple, Amazon, Qobuz, Tidal, have started serving the same disinformation podcast I had opposed at Spotify.”

His remarks referenced the latest deal that Rogan had secured which ends the period of the JRE being only available on Spotify and will lead to the podcast being available on multiple platforms.

As such, speaking on episode no. 2119 of the podcast, Rogan exclaimed, “By the way, Neil Young came back to Spotify. Congratulations, Neil… His excuse was he said that because all of the platforms are now allowing my disinformation, he should just go back on Spotify too. Great to know you got some ethics.”

The exchange between Young and Rogan underscores the broader debate about the responsibilities of platforms like Spotify in managing diverse content while respecting the values and concerns of artists and listeners.
