Muhammad Mokaev is 23, undefeated, and won his UFC 304 clash against Manel Kape via a unanimous decision. However, UFC CEO Dana White seemingly announced that the UFC wouldn’t be re-signing the Englishman after he fought out his contract at the Manchester event.

This, of course, seems mind-boggling to many, including inaugural and former UFC flyweight champion Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson. The GOAT contender, who himself has been stung by Dana White, felt that this was a monumental mistake on the Las Vegas-based promotion’s part.

Along with being the reigning ONE Championship flyweight champion, Demetrious Johnson has become a veritable YouTuber. As usual, he took to the platform to react to the UFC 304 card and give his thoughts on the fights and their aftermath.

And ‘Mighty Mouse’, incensed by Dana White saying that the UFC will probably cut Mokaev, combined with the flyweight’s revelations about uncomfortable talks with the matchmakers, felt that the Englishman had every right to be in the UFC.

Mokaev had indicated that the UFC was fed up with his proclivity for takedowns and wanted him to go toe-to-toe with his opponents more, failing which bad things may happen to him professionally. Johnson, however, was outraged at this and felt it was up to the fighters how best they could defeat their opponent.

“If they are talking to one of the best athletes in the world in the flyweight division, who’s undefeated, talking about not re-signing him, put that in your mind. Is this entertainment or is this a sport? In a sport you want to have the best athletes fight the best athletes and if an athlete chooses to grapple his opponent, to show him he’s a better fighter, then you keep that man on the roster,” he said.

If nothing else, ‘Mighty Mouse’ felt that purely from a sporting point of view, Mokaev: young, undefeated, and ambitious, deserved to be, at the very least, in the UFC. Even worse, he feared that something big may be in the works by the UFC for the flyweight division.

‘DJ’ thinks the 125-pound division may be approaching its end

Demetrious Johnson ominously suggested that White and Mokaev’s comments not only fared trouble for Mokaev, but for all 125 pounders. The flyweight division was the last division added to the men’s category in the UFC, and has been somewhat of a flop.

Johnson himself was forced out of the UFC, despite being one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time because ‘DJ’ did not sell many pay-per-views. And the former UFC champion was afraid that not only was Mokaev getting the axe, but the UFC may drop the flyweight division entirely!

“I don’t give a f**k if he can’t knock somebody out. It’s about who is the best fighter in the world. So obviously that fight was very lackluster but after watching that fight and after hearing what Mokaev said at the press conference about the UFC speaking about his performance, how he goes about doing it, makes me feel that I would not be surprised if they forced the flyweights to go up to 135,” Johnson added. What are your thoughts on ‘DJ’s comments?
