Conor McGregor and Chael Sonnen’s ongoing feud seems to have taken a new turn! ‘The Notorious’s withdrawal from UFC 303 has been the talk of the MMA sphere in recent weeks. Set to make his first Octagon appearance since fracturing his leg at UFC 264 in 2021, McGregor withdrew from the fight due to a broken toe shortly before the event.  While the injury wasn’t initially publicly disclosed, former UFC middleweight and current analyst, Chael Sonnen had put forth a theory that the Irishman is dealing with a stint in rehab and that’s why he stepped away from the Michael Chandler bout.

However, McGregor responded by uploading pictures of the injury on social media and took a shot at Sonnen who later backtracked on his allegations. Now, the two are at it again on social media as Sonnen, in his trademark fashion, let loose another salvo at ‘The Notorious’ who has responded in kind!

In a now-deleted post on X, Conor McGregor had fired back at Chael Sonnen’s allegations about him being in rehab as he’d shared pictures of his injury with the caption, “Chael shut your pie hole, h*e. You Tap from ground and pound.”

This led to Sonnen responding on his YouTube channel in a video where he put forth the argument that he was only trying to help McGregor redeem himself in the eyes of the fans by stating, “You can listen to my account which builds and helps Conor McGregor or you can listen to Conor’s account, which makes him look like a little b*tch.”

Now, the former UFC middleweight has added another dash of spice to their ongoing war of words as he took to X to state, “If he ever drank enough of his own whiskey to agree to box me I would break my own toe w/a hammer the day before the fight to prove he’s a…P***Y”

Sonnen was recently involved in an exhibition boxing match against his former UFC rival, Anderson Silva in Brazil which ended in a draw. However, McGregor responded with a post of his own where he stated, “lol, we are 100% now boxing for sure hahaja AWESOME!”

This light-hearted response by McGregor indicates that the two men haven’t been taking the entire affair seriously and their verbal sparring might be just a way for the pair to keep the fans engaged as the MMA world awaits further news about the Irishman’s return. But what does the man who stepped up to save UFC 303 in ‘The Notorious’s absence have to say about his decision to withdraw from the bout?

‘Poatan’ reveals he would have made the same choice if he was in McGregor’s shoes

Alex Pereira revealed an interesting perspective on Conor McGregor’s injury at the recent UFC 303 media day. ‘Poatan’ had suffered a similar injury as he had broken his toe while preparing for his title defense against Jamahal Hill at UFC 300 but the injury seemingly didn’t hamper him at all as he finished Hill in the first round.

Now, taking on Jiri Prochazka on short notice as a replacement for the McGregor vs Chandler bout, Pereira was asked to share his thoughts on McGregor’s decision to withdraw from the June 29 event. ‘Poatan’ stated, “You can never judge people’s pain, different scenarios, different situations.”

The Brazilian champion also acknowledged that McGregor’s financial success affords him the luxury to avoid fighting when not fully healthy, something that Pereira feels he has yet to achieve in his career as he revealed, “So I fought with the broken toe due to my situation, but maybe if I was in his situation, I would not have fought. So I cannot judge.”

In conclusion, Pereira’s comments bring a sense of balance to the discourse and highlight the fact that fighter’s decisions are influenced by a myriad of factors, including their personal and financial situations. As the MMA world eagerly awaits Conor McGregor’s return to the Octagon, the ongoing feud with Chael Sonnen serves as a reminder of the sport’s drama and the personalities that make it compelling for the fandom.
