UFC 295 is around the corner as fans will get to witness an interim title fight between two surging heavyweight contenders. Tom Aspinall will take on Sergei Pavlovich in the co-main event. Meanwhile, lightweight star Dan Hooker shared his analysis of the fight and believes that the British fighter has an edge over his opponent in one aspect.
Tom Aspinall has run through his opponents in the UFC. He has just one loss but has six wins under his belt and all of them were finishes. Moreover, the most rounds Aspinall’s fights have ever gone to was the second round, and he’s yet to win a fight via decision. As such, Dan Hooker has an interesting take on the reason behind his success in the UFC so far.

Tom Aspinall started his martial arts training at the age of seven. He followed in his father’s footsteps and has since spent a lot of time in the gym with other fighters. As such, Dan Hooker claimed that gives him an edge as he heads to UFC 295. He said, “He’s incredibly well-rounded. He’s been doing it his entire life. Since he was a kid, he’s grown up in gyms. He has got a lot of hours on the mat.”
Tom Aspinall fights at a much faster pace than most of the heavyweights. There aren’t many fighters like him who can match the speed of guys who are much smaller than them. This has led ‘The Hangman’ to believe that it can prove to be a decider when he fights Sergei Pavlovich.
“He’s famous for training with guys that are a lot smaller than him… and has like a good control of his weight, a good control of his power where he can match the speed of lighter guys,” said Dan Hooker.
Similarly, Dan Hooker also noted that Tom Aspinall knows how to adjust his power. He’s trained with welterweight and middleweight fighters and has never injured them in any way. Hooker claims that this is a skill that MMA fighters take a lot of time to develop.

“He can match the speed of welterweights, he can match the speed of middleweights and hold that strength back and not injure them, which is an incredible skill that takes like a very long time to kind of melt together,” said Hooker. However, Sergei Pavlovich may not be that easy of an opponent. That is especially true, given that he has been on a rampage in his last few fights as well.
Pavlovich is on a 6-fight winning streak
Sergei Pavlovich did not get the result he wanted when he debuted in the UFC in 2018. He took on former UFC title challenger Alistair Overeem, who knocked out the Russian fighter in the opening round of their fight. However, Pavlovich recovered from that loss and amassed an impressive record of six wins in a row. Moreover, Overeem handed the Russian his only MMA loss.

Pavlovich, on his way to grab a 6-fight winning streak, made quick work of the likes of Derrick Lewis, Curtis Blaydes, and Tai Tuivasa, just to name a few. Moreover, all of his wins have been first-round finishes, and if the Russian continues at the same pace, he might see his name in the UFC’s record books. As such, these impressive stats of both fighters make the UFC 295 interim title fight more interesting.
